Detroit Lions Ditching Playoff Appearance Banners

We’re always happy to document what a bunch of inconsequential losers the Detroit Lions are. Just last week, arguably the second-best player in franchise history, Calvin Johnson, said he retired because he knew he wouldn’t win a Super Bowl in Detroit.

We don’t blame him. This is, after all, a team that hung banners in Ford Field just for making the playoffs.

Boy, that’s one hell of a standard.

Well, no more!

Playoff banners are GONE at Ford Field.

We all know what the standard or goal is for the Green Bay Packers — championships.

We know what it is for the Minnesota Vikings — division titles.

Right now, getting back to being competitive will work for the Chicago Bears.

So previously, making the playoffs was the goal for the Lions. Apparently, that is no longer the case. What will they hang banners for now?

Was skeptical about the Lions hiring Rod Wood to be their team president and he had some comments about “not being qualified to run any team in the league other than the Lions” that scared me at first, but he has been excellent. He has done nothing but hit home runs ever since that comment. Also, hiring Bob Quinn from New England to be the new GM was a great move too. That guy is an absolute stud. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but with the way the team is improving and having guys like Quinn and Wood in charge, the Lions could be serious contenders in 2+ years (so at least two more off-seasons for Quinn to sculpt HIS roster and get rid of Mayhew guys).

    One Pride

In other words…not next year but the year after that, not this year for sure because Quinn is sculpting.
Rod Wood now there is a name…like Dirk Diggler. Tell you team to win the Division, then win a playoff game, then win the Super Bowl, then come back and comment here how great the Lions are.

Yeah, it normally takes a few years to clean up a fucking mess. That’s what Martin Mayhew left in Detroit. Bad O line, no depth at WR or TE and a depleted defense that looks nothing like the dominant D from 2014. It is going to take time to build up a team with all those holes. I also never said the Lions were great. I said Quinn is a stud and Wood has done a great job since taking over as president. The team itself is, as I’ve already mentioned, still being constructed. Right now, they are good but nothing more than that. Could make the playoffs this year, but would be a stretch to see them winning a playoff game on the road.

    One Pride….

    One playoff win since 1957.

    Keep the faith brother.

New management that doesn’t resemble the other shitheads that ran the team so I’m not focused on all the garbage that happens before Quinn/Wood. Once Quinn builds his team, I won’t have to even say Martin Mayhew ever again.

LOL, not with Mark Murphy running the show. He might want to rename his new playground to #Maketheplayoffstown district.
