Pro Football Talk is reporting that the NFL owners will vote to allow two players per team to return from injured reserve each year.
Since 2012, each team has been able to bring one player back from injured reserve after eight weeks. Prior to that, any player who went on injured reserve was out for the season.
This is potentially great news for the Green Bay Packers. Under Mike McCarthy, the Packers have always sent a parade of players to IR each year.
Without fail, one of the narratives of each and every season is about injuries.
In 2016, there was a long debate about who the Packers should use their one return from IR designation on. The leading candidates seemed to be cornerback Sam Shields and running back Eddie Lacy. Ultimately, neither player came back and the Packers used the return from IR designation on cornerback Makinton Dorleant.
Laughably, he just got injured again and ended up finishing the season on IR anyway.
