We all remember Aaron Rodgers’ run-the-table statement when the Green Bay Packers were sitting at 4-6 in 2016.
He said it during a press conference following the team’s loss to Washington. It will go down in Packers’ lore, as the team ran off six straight to finish 10-6 and win the NFC North.
Didn’t quite have the same resonance in the locker room as it did with fans and media though. Packers defensive end Mike Daniels was on Good Morning Football earlier in the week and he was asked if the team hung their hat on the statement.
Daniels admitted it had nothing to do with how the Packers finished.
“I had no idea he said it until like two games in and they said, “Oh, wow, they’re really going to run the table!” I said, “What are they talking about?” People kept asking me, “So did you guys really hang your hats on that?” I was like, “No.” We just went out there and played. Your pride as a competitor… you’re not looking for a soundbite, quotes or a rah-rah speech. If you need that, go home. You’re in the wrong business.”
