When the Green Bay Packers re-signed Christine Michael on Wednesday, it seemed their running back picture was finally clear. The Packers had Ty Montgomery, Michael, second-year undrafted free agent Don Jackson and they would draft one or two backs in April.
The Packers appear to be hedging their bets, however. The wild card is former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.
Some fans have been screaming for the Packers to sign Peterson all offseason. The Packers have shown little interest. They reportedly do have “some” interest, however, according to Ben Goessling.
The Green Bay Packers have some interest in a visit with Peterson, but it’s believed that might not happen until after the team can take stock of its roster following the draft.
So the picture isn’t totally hazy. The Packers clearly are not enamored with the backs they have on the roster. And why would they be?
Of the three, only Montgomery has shown the potential to be a No. 1 back.
The Packers will see how the chips fall in the draft. If they’re able to pick a back or two, then Peterson — if he’s still available — won’t be a Packer. If the Packers aren’t able to add the back or backs they want, then we might see Adrian Peterson in a Packers uniform after all.
