The 30-year-old defensive end spent the last two seasons with Washington, before being released last week. In 2016, he started six games and recorded 32 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
With Letroy Guion’s four-game suspension looming at the start of the season, the Packers could use some depth on their defensive line.
This could be the sort of bargain signing Ted Thompson might actually pull the trigger on. After all, since Francois was released, he won’t count against the compensatory draft pick formula and the Packers should be rolling in those next year.
Francois has already visited Chicago and Seattle.
There’s one other thing that bears mentioning here. Back in 2013, when Francois was first a free agent, the Packers were reportedly interested in him. After spending his first four years in San Francisco, Francois ended up signing with the Colts, where he spent two seasons. So maybe the Packers will get their guy… five years later.
