The 30-year-old defensive end spent the last two seasons with Washington, before being released last week. In 2016, he started six games and recorded 32 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
With Letroy Guion’s four-game suspension looming at the start of the season, the Packers could use some depth on their defensive line.
This could be the sort of bargain signing Ted Thompson might actually pull the trigger on. After all, since Francois was released, he won’t count against the compensatory draft pick formula and the Packers should be rolling in those next year.
Francois has already visited Chicago and Seattle.
There’s one other thing that bears mentioning here. Back in 2013, when Francois was first a free agent, the Packers were reportedly interested in him. After spending his first four years in San Francisco, Francois ended up signing with the Colts, where he spent two seasons. So maybe the Packers will get their guy… five years later.
He was a game changer while at LSU. Sad to say I have not followed his NFL career.
S’ok…neither has anyone else.
Fairly underwhelming player, which might explain why he’s looking for his 4th team after 7 seasons.
Bargain signings are the only signings Ted Thompson actually pulls the trigger on. Five years late? No problem. Can’t wait till we sign Malcolm Butler in half a decade so we can finally work on getting Rodgers another ring.
TT- Why aren’t you calling Zach Brown?
Francois? Wah?
You guys must be real pumped up. I can feel the enthusiasm rolling in waves. What a game-changer. This changes everything. It’s going to turn the Las Vegas Super Bowl odds on their ear!
After all, with 1.5 sacks, he had 1.5 sacks more than Guion. Of course, Guion was pumped up on PEDs to achieve that loftiness of performance. Without the PEDs this year Guion will perhaps have minus 4 sacks. Would be minus 6 if not for the 4 game suspension….
Know what else turns the Vegas Super Bowl odds on their ears? A shitty team starting 5-0.
When did Ted start looking at signing guys who are 30+? I thought that was a taboo for him, better to cut those old guys like Cullen Jenkins too early and replace with drafted and developed in house youth. Oh, wait…
