The Green Bay Packers decided not to tender linebacker Jayrone Elliott as a restricted free agent and we thought that would signal the end of his time in Green Bay.
It now appears there’s a chance Elliott will join Micah Hyde with the Buffalo Bills.
Elliott visited with Buffalo on Monday.
Much like Datone Jones, Elliott will be a story of unfulfilled promise if he leaves. Elliott showed flashes as a playmaker at times, especially during the preseason, but wasn’t able to translate that into regular season success in 2016.
The Packers gave Elliott ample opportunity to earn playing time on defense in 2016 and he wasn’t able to take advantage of it. Elliott finished the year with just 19 tackles and one sack.
There is, of course, still a chance the Packers bring Elliott back on a minimum-salary deal, but it doesn’t seem that they’re terribly motivated to do anything. We expect to Elliott to be playing elsewhere in 2017.
