Um… good riddance? The exodus of Green Bay Packers’ free agents continues with linebacker Datone Jones.
And this prick continues the Green Bay-to-Minnesota pipeline.

I would like to channel my main man Cutty! on this one.
And couldn’t frickin’ care less.
Datone Jones was a first-round draft pick. And despite him being my boy Tyler’s boy, I could give two shits about the Packers losing him to the Vikings.
In four seasons with the Packers, Datone Jones had a grand total of nine sacks.
Remember when we drafted him to contain Colin Kaepernick and the read-option? He contained jack shit!
So as far as I am concerned, good luck never winning a Super Bowl, Datone!
I don’t really care either. What i do care about is swinging and missing on so many 1st round picks.
I have no doubt Jones stats will get better, as he has a lot better supporting cast around him.
That brings up an interesting question my friend PF4L…
Q : Is it on TT If all the guys that jumped ship suddenly become better players and finally show their potential ?
IMO it actually points to lousy coaching, and/or bad team chemistry.
My guess is that we’ll get the answer pretty soon…. especially w Feastmode, who I suspect just never was tasked w growing up (recall video game crap). As much as o despise P Carroll (sneaked out of USC before scandal hit presses) i believe he and his staff will make that happen.
First sign will be watching how quickly they motivate him to drop the lbs…
Good points ICEBOWL. While you know I am not a TT fan at all, I also hold MM and DC at fault as well for their inept coaching. There were many times during any game in the last few years where you are left scratching your head as to why they would call certain plays or use certain schemes or inappropriate personnel . Not to mention their usual lack of anything that would lead to an “adjustment” after halftime. I blame those three buffoons equally. Mark Murphy needs to put on his “Big Boy Pants” and do his job with these three charlatans, and light a fire under their collective asses NOW!
I mean, sometimes players are bad fits for schemes. Sometimes position changes have an effect. I could see Datone Jones being a decent 4-3 D-end. I dont think I will ever be a great pass rusher at this point however. Damarious Randall is another one who is much better suited to playing safety rather than corner. I could envision a situation where when Burnetts contract is up at the end of this year, Randall is moved to FS.
Ice….It’s TT’s fault if the player doesn’t fit your schemes, like….kato said. But great players will always find a way to shine regardless. Jones is not a great player. but on the Queens strong defense, he’ll look better.
To answer your direct question ICE…..it always looks worse on TT when a higher drafted player. A) Doesn’t pan out. B) Gets let go. C) Excels with another team. There will be various reasons why, including coaching, but at the end of the day, Ted drops the hammer and is responsible for all player acquisitions, and departures.
AS MMTTDC said……Its also true that MM and DC take partial blame, especially for development and chemistry…..But here’s the kicker my friend…..If TED….AS GM and the BOSS, doesn’t like what he see’s in player development or any other function of the team under MM, TED has the absolute power to make changes, Ted has TOTAL power. If he ever wanted to make ANY changes, he could have at any time through the years. So in my eye’s…yes, it’s all pretty much on Ted Thompson. That isn’t excusing poor performance underneath him, Ted’s simply the bottom line. Power that Mark Murphy gave him, without question.
With all that said…DC oversee’s his players and coaches. McCarthy oversee’s DC’s performance and all the teams coaches and players. Ted oversee’s…….everything and everybody.
As far as Lacy showing improvement….Whether Lacy does, or doesn’t doesn’t tell me anything. Simply because years ago, i labeled Ted Thompson inept. How Lacy plays isn’t going to change my opinion on TT, nor will anyone, or anything else.
Sorry for the Novel….
Valid points P…..
I’d concur w. MMetc.. that its a whole management issue….
I think TJ nailed part of the problem when he stated :
“I think just throughout the years they were able to get some guys back in town because they used the whole, we’re good, we’re competitive, we compete for championships every year. Do you want to play with the best quarterback in the NFL-type thing, you’re going to have to take a little less money, and I think it just kind of wore some guys out the last couple years and watching guys leave.”
Jared Cook is also visiting the vikings
What a waste..
How can Green Bay so easily let the Franchise’s greatest 1st round draft pick/pass rusher get away???
Screw this. I’m outraged
Consider me a Vikings fan now
My new handle is now: “VikeFan4Life”
Hahaha…. you suck
Lacy was a 2nd round pick you Jerk.
Just another great pick by the big white rat!
He will be good w Minn
Yep, you are most likely correct. 4-3 with BETTER D Linemen around him.
Welcome home Datone!
Join the long line of champions like Favre, Hutch & Longwell! Let’s crush these pansies & bring the Lombardi trophy home to Minny where it belongs baby!
The guy I wanted in that draft was Xavier Rhodes. I thought TT had him until the Vikes got him the pick ahead. Just think how that may have changed things and all because the Vikings took advantage of Seattle in a trade for Harvin.
TT actually selected Jones at about where his draft grade slated him. I think there were only 4 players who weren’t QBs that graded higher than Jones. Hopkins, Cyprien, Patterson (bust) and Ta’o (overrated). Jones just really never should have been drafted for a 3-4 defense.
Exactly! This guy wasted his entire rookie contract time transitioning to our 3-4 without much success. Been playing out of position because Ted had to outsmart everyone with his experiments.
I find this mildly surprising. Packers are trimming the weed smokers out.
Another TT first round bust. At least the Queens can enjoy his 2 sacks per season.
This is reminding me of the 70`s & 80`s. I hope TT is gone before I die!
Only 31% of first round picks, including premium “can’t miss” picks taken early in the first round, taken well before the Packers, ever make it to the Pro Bowl. At the defensive end position, a player taken in the first round only has a 17% chance of making the Pro Bowl.
Datone was miscast in a 3-4 scheme. On that alone I suspect he’ll be more productive there than here.
But this gets to the heart of one my main issues with TT. Why draft a guy for a position he doesn’t frickin’ play? It’s like he’s trying to out smart everyone.
Welcome home, Datone!
Join the long line of champions like Favre, Hutch, Jennings & Longwell
Rodgers will get crushed. He knows what’s comen
Now let’s take the Lombardi trophy home to where it belongs. The dome in Minny baby
It is nice to see Datone picked up talking shit now that he is with the Vikings. At least that part of his game is in full force. He fits right in with those Viking fans that are asshats, like the one above. Off season champions! It will be a neat trick for Datone to sack Rodgers multiple times a game from the fucking sideline. Just like the domes/stadiums past, there will more than likely NEVER be a Lombardi trophy in Minnesota, at least I hope I never live to see that day. Because what a sad, pathetic day that will be. Imagine Paul Allen hollering until he goes hoarse…
US true die-hard Viking fans will be laughing at you whilst wearing our Datone Jones color rush uniforms next season.
Lombardi trophy coming to Minny.
You guys will choke like usual. You guys said you were going to win the Lombardi when the Vikes were 5-0. How did that go? 8-8.
The VIkings will find ways to choke like usual.
Lombardi trophy coming home? Where’s home?…Green Bay.
Might want to change your name to…dumbshitqueenF4L.
You true die hard queen fans will be doing what you and viking players do best, watching other teams in the playoffs and Super Bowl.
Ok tyko its getting old….
Or how about the Vikings choking a 5-0 start to go 8-8 Empacador? Don’t forget about Walsh against the Seahawks.
Datone Jones is a waste of a draft pick.
Wrong……one of all the wasted draft picks.
That’s what I was saying, he is one of the wasted draft picks.
