With all the speculation about the Green Bay Packers and Jamaal Charles and Adrian Peterson lately, you’d think Eddie Lacy was out of the picture.
Lacy will be a free agent, but we’ve maintained all along he’s a much better option for the Packers than either of those aforementioned old timers.
The Packers are reportedly open to that line of thinking. They not only have had contact with Lacy about a new deal, it sounds as if they’re serious about getting one done.
“Talking to my agent, the Packers have been very vocal about having me back there,” Lacy said in an interview on Adam Schefter’s “Know Them From Adam” podcast.
Lacy is still rehabbing an ankle injury he suffered in October, but says he’ll be ready for football activities by April. That coupled with his ongoing weight issues likely means Lacy’s market value won’t be sky high.
We expect the Packers to give him a short-term, incentive-heavy deal. That has been projected to be in the $2-3 million per season range.
Things could progress on that front as soon as this week with agents and executives getting face time with each other at the scouting combine.
