We talked about how the Hall of Fame selection is somewhat of a joke, earlier. We’ve also mentioned — on numerous occasions — how former Green Bay Packers safety LeRoy Butler should be in the Hall of Fame.
He’s never once made it to the finalist stage. Why?
We have no idea. He only redefined the safety position in the 1990s. Equally adept at stopping the run, as he was in coverage, plus a great blitzer… you know the story.
Butler has never been openly critical of the process, at least until now.
I played in the smallest market @packers ,maybe if I went and played in a big market, after 5 years I would be in already, but I won't change

I am a very patient person so I know one day I will get in and represent @packers and packers nation, the safety poss needs more attention

The usual refrain — even Butler has pointed this out — is the safety position isn’t highly valued when it comes to the Hall of Fame. Kind of like guard, only not quite as overlooked.
There are only seven pure safeties in the Hall. Lately, safeties like Steve Atwater, Brian Dawkins and John Lynch all have their names come up before Butler’s.
I wouldn’t take a single one of those guys before LeRoy if I were picking a team, but it almost seems like Butler is fourth in line for the Hall among safeties.
That’s dumb, but so is this whole process and we don’t blame Butler for being salty about it.
He has been bitchin about it publicly for years..get it right fucking moron
Ask Steve Young if Butler should be in. He feared being decapitated by him every time they played and it nearly happened numerous times on the shots he took from Butler.
TO was an idiot but how can they leave him out? Jerry Jones is in though what a joke.
This site is a shit show. Rob is the only legitimate author on this click bait operation.
I love Butler and would be proud to see him get in the H O F.
But here’s the thing. Some players take decades and decades and decades to get voted in. Most never get voted in.
I just don’t think getting an attitude and whining about it, increases your chances.
There are 310 total players in the H O F right now. From a pool of players of about 25,000. It’s an elite crowd, and it isn’t easy to get in. Be humble.
