Let’s be honest. There was one Green Bay Packers’ run the table initiative: run the table to actually make the playoffs. The second one — the only one we care about: run the table and win the Super Bowl.
One took six wins in a row. The second will take 10.
The Packers took a step in the direction of the second by vanquishing their playoff ghost, the New York Giants 38-13 on Sunday evening.
The Giants came in the winners of two straight playoff games at Lambeau Field. That derpy fuck Eli Manning had just as many playoff wins at Lambeau as Aaron Rodgers: two.
No more.
The Giants can eat it. New York — to channel some LCD Soundsytem — I love you, but you’re bringing me down!
And also, your football team CAN FUCK OFF!
The Packers started REAL slow, but they finished strong. It was 6-0 before the Packers got on the board with 2:20 left. Aaron Rodgers hit Davante Adams from five yards out to make it 7-6.
Then, the latest Hail Mary.
Final play of the half, Rodgers to Randall Cobb from 42 out. 14-6 at the half all of a sudden.
Was the game over then?
No, but the Packers handled it in the second half. They added 24 to the total and that was largely because of the efforts of two men.
Sure, Aaron Rodgers — who started slow — came on and finished an outstanding 25-of-40 for 362 yards, four touchdowns and no picks.
But… offensively, other than Rodgers, it was Randall Cobb.
RANDY!
He had been out the past two weeks, but stormed back with five for 116 and three of those touchdowns.
On the other side, Julius Peppers.
He was in on the action for a large part of the day. Although he finished with only three tackles, one was a sack and he knocked down two passes. Plus, as was mentioned, he was on Eli Manning’s ass more than the statistics show.
Did Julie just decide to show up today? Maybe, but he was also wrecking Packer great Marshall Newhouse for the most part. Or as we used to call him — Turnstile.
Great to see you, Turnstile!
And hey, we won’t deny Clay Matthews’ two forced-fumble play where he also recovered the damn fumble midway through the fourth quarter.
That was straight-up phenomenal.
They all came up big today, including the special teams and punter Jake Schum, who, while the offense was going three and out early on, buried the Giants deep.
Playoff football?
Yes.
Playoff team.
Today.
The Dallas Cowboys await and they won’t be this easy.
But listen.
Fuck them.
Let’s roll!
