We knew this was coming or at least we had a pretty good idea. The Green Bay Packers have officially ruled receiver Jordy Nelson out of Sunday’s game with the Dallas Cowboys.
“Jordy Nelson, actually, we’re going to declare him out for the game,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. “Meeting with the medical staff, Dr. McKenzie and Dr. Gray will not medically clear him to practice tomorrow. He will be out for the game Sunday.
“They just would not medically clear him for Sunday. We’ll reevaluate Monday. He’s actually in the training room now going through a workout and he’ll continue to progress. He says he feels better every day.”
The Packers initially had planned to let Nelson practice on Saturday to see if he would be able to go on Sunday. That plan has obviously been abandoned.
Nelson’s absence will hurt the Packers’ passing game to a degree, but shouldn’t slow it down that much.
On another note, we like that McCarthy said the Packers will reevaluate Nelson on Monday, like it’s a foregone conclusion that they’re going to be beat Dallas this week. We all hate to make comparisons to the 2010 team, but this is the same attitude they had that year.
Just sayin’…
