We laughed heartily when Ian Rapoport suggested the Green Bay Packers would be active in free agency this offseason, yesterday.
Perhaps he doesn’t know who the Packers’ general manager is, we thought.
Right about now, everyone is sick of Ted Thompson’s act. It starts with the fans, but even Aaron Rodgers suggested the Packers should do something this offseason.
Despite all of this, we still strongly believe Big Ted will do what he does every offseason — absolutely jack shit other than drafting some guys and signing some undrafted free agents.
However, today, this popped up.
With a 👍🏼 from CEO Mark Murphy. https://t.co/2l9ZKRwRDr

It’s entirely possible Rapoport is tired of everyone making fun of him for suggesting the Packers would be active in free agency.
We know these NFL reporters are easily butthurt when you criticize them. Ask that superb talent Ryan Wood.
Actually, don’t. He’ll block you on Twitter and you wouldn’t want to be without his insightful and amazing prose.
That said, this rather vague tweet from Rapoport could be construed as an endorsement from old Ginger Gap Tooth, himself. That perhaps that useless ginger actually strolled over to Big Ted’s office and was like, “Hey, Big Ted, you’re gonna sign some free agents this year. It’s the final year of your contract and, goshdarnit, we’re actually going to make you earn your salary this year because we’re going to force you to do your whole job!”
Hard to say. Maybe.
Maybe old GGT is tired of being criticized for constantly supporting the status quo. Maybe he’s getting pressure from the board, the only entity that could actually do something curtail his reign of mediocrity. Maybe — we doubt it — but maybe, that ginger prick actually cares about winning championships.
This is all just speculation, of course.
Like we said yesterday, we’ll believe the Packers will actually do something in free agency when we see it.
BS. The $35 million in cap space is behind the free agent directive. Sam Shields looking at retirement is behind the directive. That was a guy who figured prominently in your future plans, and he has to be replaced, pronto, by any means necessary. I’ll give the organization a pass for seeing if Gunter, Randall, or Rollins could make it easy on you and take Shields’ place, but they all failed in spectacular fashion. Rolling that dice again would be like spinning the Russian roulette with five bullets chambered. It will be tough to draft a ready-to-go corner at the bottom of the first round; so the Packers might not have much choice in the matter.
Regardless, if you think Mark Murphy feels some urgency after another year of record profits, Titletown District ready to open next season, and a trip to the NFC Championship Game, you’re crazy, and if you think he SHOULD feel some urgency, you are moronic AND crazy.
Though they all say it, probably only the Patriots, Packers and Steelers play strictly for championships each season, but even those three won’t feel bad about reaching a conference championship game. Nor should they. Only 4 teams make it that far. Mark Murphy, the board and everyone else in the organization is quite pleased with 2016. Probably the only thing they’d ask for is more home playoff games, please. Mo money, homey. Thanks!
So let me get this straight.
If Packer fans think that the President of the Green Bay Packers feels some urgency, we’re crazy?
And if we think he SHOULD feel some urgency (having Aaron Rodgers) then were morons AND crazy?
I think i read that right.
Just checkin, Thanks.
Just an honest question, have you considered changing your screen name to “ARF4L”? Because you seem to hate everything else about the packers.
AWE :(
Listen little man. Don’t confuse reality, with hate. If reality hurts your feelings little man, then you go have yourself a nice cry. Maybe grow up.
But stop stalking my post like a little obsessive blog bitch. Some people like reading my post. if you don’t like it, then simply don’t read it. Or at very least, stop acting like a little petulant child.
PACKMAN

Every Packer fan should read this post by PF4L — no more truer words have been spoken.
I can’t say anything else. Every word is 120% accurate.
Well said!
BTW Shawn….Here’s a thought….or two.
You have to pick one, you can’t have it both ways.
You say the Packers are one of 3 teams who play strictly for Championships.
But you also say, because of record profits, and they reached (lost) a Championship game, that they are cool with that. (sounds an awful lot like the 70’s and 80’s).
You think the Patriots wouldn’t feel bad, that they’d be “pleased” that they reached the Championship game and lost. REALLY?
And, i don’t want to bring this up, but wtf dude? You said that….”Mark Murphy, the board and everyone else in the organization is quite pleased with 2016.”
Wow, that’s a lot of people. Do you know all of them and how they feel? That you can speak for them?
I don’t know about you, but i’m guessing Aaron Rodgers isn’t quite pleased about the 2011,12,13,14.15, 2016 seasons. But i can’t speak for him. I’m just guessing he isn’t satisfied with NFC North banners.
C’MON MAN!
Those are some large assumptions . . . just as ridiculous as some of ours. If Mark Murphy does not feel urgency, then he is not paying attention. I may be crazy about many things, but not about some of the people in this brain trust. I dig the “homer” POV, it just does not work for me. I wish that it did more. “A rolling stone gathers no moss” is more of my mantra.
I was actually very happy and very surprised that OUR PACKERS made it this far. But the NFCCG proved once again that we were out matched and highly under coached . . . and those things CAN BE FIXED; but recent history proves that this brain trust does NOT have the answers, and if they did have, they did not utilize them. Go Pack Go!
Shawn:
Stephon Gilmore appeared to have an down season for the Bills. He always looked like an in your face good man to man corner with some length and speed. To me this is needed. From what I have seen he wants the money, but a down year under Ryan may keep his cost down a little. Probably would still not be cheap. Any thoughts on corners. The team does need to replace Shields with more than another rookie or current corners.
Completely agree. A run at Gilmore is needed if they don’t franchise him. They will likely overpay for him, but that is free agency in a nutshell.
Am i missing something? Are the Packer sitting on some big wad of cash to sign Free agents?
Besides their own.
Yeah! their own over-rated draft choices! Lol!
