The Green Bay Packers will send three players to the Pro Bowl, at least at this point. The NFL’s annual all-star game usually ends up being a bastardization of itself when it’s all said and done with players pulling out and so forth.
At any rate, quarterback Aaron Rodgers, guard T.J. Lang and safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix got the initial nod.
In our estimation two of those guys actually deserve to be there.
The one who doesn’t would be Clinton-Dix. While he does have four interceptions on the season, Clinton-Dix also has penchant for being out of position. That has probably cost the Packers more this season than his four picks have given the team.
The Pro Bowl really isn’t about merit though. It’s popularity contest and Clinton-Dix is certainly well liked.
Do the Packers deserve to have more players in the Pro Bowl?
We would make a case for left tackle David Bakhtiari, who is playing the best football of his career. A case could also be made for right tackle Bryan Bulaga.
The offensive line has been the strong point of the Packers this season and those two guys have been just as good if not better than Lang.
Defensively, we’d make a case for the Packers other safety, Morgan Burnett, who actually leads the team in tackles.
4 Vikings just made the pro bowl. The incomparable Cordarrelle Patterson. The astounding Xavier Rhodes. The stupendous Harrison Smith. The peerless Everson Griffen. All of these selections were no brainers and no one denies that they clearly belong in the pro bowl.
In addition, DT Linval Joseph, 3rd in the NFL in d-line tackles and with 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles from the NT spot certainly has an argument he could have been selected. Terrence Newman also would have been a logical selection (leading the entire league with only .60 of one yard surrendered per snap played) as would PR Marcus Sherels (2 TDs).
Meanwhile, the Packers had three selections. Two of them are highly dubious and the third is a player who likely will not be on the team next year.
*Aaron Rodgers is the fourth, at best, QB in the NFC. Brees has far put-performed him in yards, completion percentage, QB rating, and yards per pass attempt yet did not make the pro bowl. Rodgers only made it due to name recognition, not due to performance on the field.
*Apparently Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix made it due to poor competition at the position. His own play, leading the 24th ranked pass defense, has been below average.
*The third, T.J. Lang, does not like McCarthy and is a free agent at the end of the year. He would make a fine Viking indeed.
* As per snubs, there is really no one else on the team anyone could make a logic-based argument deserves to be on the pro bowl. Daniels is a good player but no one in their right mind could think he should displace Fletcher Cox. As per the writer’s comments in Bakhtiari and Bulaga, they are good players but no one in their right mind or objectively could make a case that either should displace Tyron Smith, Trent Williams, or Jason Peters.
So, final tally:
PACKERS
3 pro bowlers
1 deserved it
0 actual snubs
VIKINGS
4 pro bowlers
4 deserved it
3 snubs
Nobody except you cares about the Pro Bowl. They players don’t even care. Patterson does not even belong on an NFL roster, he can’t catch.
Have fun watching the Pro Bowl, your players will all be there since the Vikings won’t be in the Super Bowl ever.
You guys only care about things if you are doing well in them. It is like how a child behaves. Last year once you lost the division you did not care about winning the division and mocked the Vikings for winning it and taking pride in winning it. Years when you win it you brag about it. I guess you’ll be making fun of the Lions for foolishly winning the division this year….
If you had 6 or 7 players make the pro bowl you would say you cared and it is quite an accomplishment blah blah blah. But, with only three… and 2 of them not deserving it… you don’t car… it isn’t important…. Just like little bratty spoiled children.
As per Patterson he has 49 catches this year and zero drops. Can’t catch? And there you have Dropvante on your team…. Self-awareness = not a strong suit with Packer fans. Reality = a real weakness with Packer fans.
I place no trust in your skills as a modern Nostradamus. If you cannot even comprehend the present how could you possibly have insight into the future? Send me this Saturday’s winning lottery numbers and then we can talk.
What team was it that was 1st in their division and a fan of that team couldn’t stop bragging about it?
Then loss, after loss, team falling to 2nd place. Then more losses, then 3rd place and we never hear that fan bragging that team up again. Childish
All we hear now is crickets.
Reality can be a cruel MOFO.
Bwahahahahahahaha!
SKOL!!
4 pro bowlers sitting at home for the playoffs. Good god Viking fans are smug, arrogant assholes. Replace “The incomparable Cordarrelle Patterson” with ” The incomparable Percy Harvin” and that was you back in the day. How did that work out? Guessing about the same as now.
BTW “Killer”, learn your own team history. Who is this John Marshall you speak of in the other thread defending your ilk?? I think your team could use a better representative than you. JIM, his name is JIM Marshall, but you know, facts and shit. Don’t let that stand in the way of your upcoming retort.
Hey, Vikings still have a 2% chance of making the playoffs! Usually you guys wait to spout off until you know for sure it will not come back to bite you. The most likely scenario right now is both our teams not making the playoffs. I guess I’d rather be the Vikings with good people and 4 pro bowlers than the Packers with bad people and 3 pro bowlers.
You guys are always saying this that or the other thing does not matter due to a super bowl or due to not making the playoffs. You should really choose a better measuring stick for denying accomplishments. Like, how about: “Wait a sec! Did it solve world hunger? No? Well, then, screw it!” or: “Did it give everyone the ability to grow wings and fly? No? Then it does not matter!” or: “What are you talking about? I thought you said this was a cure for cancer? No? Then why would we care?”
Yes, the player in question’s actual name is JIM Marshall, not John Marshall. I’ll go ahead and confess now. I know some of you suspected it anyway. OK, here it is = The truth is… (dramatic pause, take a deep breath)… I… am… Human.
As per Percy Harvin, it worked out great with him. We had him for 4 seasons and he had 20 TDs, over 3,200 yards, and 280 catches. So he averaged (including the rookie year) 70 catches, 800 yards, and 5 TDs in those 4 seasons. He had a further 683 yards rushing and 4 rushing TDs. In those 4 years he ALSO had 5 kickoff returns for TDs. He also made the pro bowl (though I understand Pro Bowls do not matter to Packers fans like you).
He was a late first round pick and accomplished all that and supplied some fun memories. We then traded him for a 1st, 3rd, and 7th rounder. An excellent trade. We selected Pro Bowl CB Xavier Rhodes with the Seahawks 1st round pick and electrifying RB Jerick McKinnon with their 3rd round pick and both are very productive for the Vikes while Harvin is out of football. So, yes, it worked out great with Harvin. Tell me, when was the last time TT took a late 1st round pick, they became wildly productive on the field in the pass game, run game, and special teams, and then traded that player at the end of the rookie contract for a windfall of draft picks. When was that? How many times has TT done that?
Actually, Harvin is back in the NFL with the bills
Lol no one gives a fuck killer. Mike Daniels certainly deserved to be there. Last time I knew, PFF had him rated the #4 rated DT in football. The numbers aren’t quite there, but overall the play around him has been mediocre and he has been doubled quite a bit. Rodgers after a tough start has come into his own, he deserves to be there, I am pretty sure he leads the league in TDs. Clinton Dix doesn’t belong there. Burnett, meh. He MIGHT be a top ten safety. Maybe. Nick Perry certainly belonged in the conversation, and should be named as a backup. Bahktiari has been one of the top offensive lineman in football, period, for the past 2 months.
Kato, my sentiments too. Perry should have been considered as well as Bakhtiari.
Now to be fair Kato, until Sunday Rodgers led the league in touchdowns. Brees took the lead and Rodgers is now tied with Matt Ryan. The glorious Sam Bradford has the 23rd spot nailed down all to himself though, so there is that.
I respect Mike Daniels — even though his own teammates do not — but he cannot compare to the likes of Fletcher Cox who made it in or Linval Joseph who did not make it in. He is a very good DT but he is not even Top 4 in the NFC and only 3 make it in.
Riddle me this: If another QB in the NFC had the same # of TDs as Rodgers but had far fewer yards passing, a much lower yards per attempt, and a much lower completion percentage, and played behind a much better o-line making their job much easier, and has a significantly lower QB rating, do you think it is fair and right that person beat out Aaron Rodgers for pro bowl nomination? Not fair, not right, am I right? So, we agree?
Thing is, this was actually true of Drew Brees, not Aaron Rodgers. He beats Rodgers in nearly every category, and by a lot. Brees should replace Rodgers in the pro bowl. Also, the pro bowl is stilted towards QBs. It is one position but they name three pro bowlers. Do they name three TEs? No. There are two safety position but they only name a total of three. So, really, one of the three in the pro bowl already should not be there. But, even with three Rodgers should not be one of them. By straight stats and QB rating, not taking into account circumstances then there are 3 better performing QBs in the NFC. If you open it up to clutch plays and accomplishment through adversity and in light of circumstances then you would add Stafford and Bradford as being ahead of Rodgers and Rodgers would be in 6th in about a tie with Kirk Cousins.
Nick Perry does not belong in the conversation. Our back up DE Danielle Hunter — 10.5 sacks, averaging 4 QB hurries per game, an amazing number of tackles, a safety, a TD, fumble recovery — should go to the pro bowl long before Perry. No one but you was conversing about Perry in the pro bowl.
Our pro bowler Everson Griffen beat Bakhtiari for a sack in our game earlier this year and he is going to do it again this week. Bakhtiari is good, very good, but he is no Trent Williams or Tyron Smith or Jason Peters. (all 3 of those guys held Griffen sackless — you see, Griffen faces the best blockers in the NFL and still has 8 sacks compared to Perry often unblocked or facing RTs.) In fact, Terron Armstead of the Saints is also better than Bakhtiari. He is very good but he is not great.
You don’t watch any games besides the Vikings. That much is obvious. Bradford and Stafford ahead of Rodgers! LOL. The packers would have maybe three wins of that didn’t have Rodgers. Maybe. Brees should have made it over Dak Prescott. Perry is one of the top five edge defenders against the run, period. In addition to good numbers rushing the passer. The packers pass rush has suffered the past couple of games without him. He is that integral in the defense. The Vikings defense would function just fine without Danielle Hunter. There is enough talent there.
The poor little viking fan doesn’t like the 3 Packers voted to the Pro Bowl. Well have yourself a good cry you whiney P O S.
WAA!! WAA!! WAA!! WAA!!
I guess when your 5-0 team is left with a 1.4% chance of making the playoffs, all she has left is crying about another team.
Poor thing. :(
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I’d argue that Jordy deserved the nod over Fitzgerald. He has more yards, a higher per-reception average, leads the league in TD’s, less fumbles, and done so in 16 fewer receptions.
But Pro-Bowl voting is all popularity anyway. In the end, who cares? Only the players with Pro Bowl incentives int heir contracts, basically.
You could make an argument that Fitzgerald has not done quite enough in comparison to others. But, if you stuck with factual statistics you would then replace Fitzgerald with Brandin Cooks of the Saints. The other three would be Evans, Beckham, and Julio Jones. All 4 of those beat both Jordy and Larry statistically.
Had Clay put a little effort in his game, maybe he would’ve gotten selected. Now he’ll be doing diaper dooty while three teammates will be in Orlando collecting an additional paycheck. LOL
So…..you think Rodgers is going to the Pro Bowl and pick up that little paycheck? You think Clay’s worried about that pocket change of an additional paycheck?
Enjoy the delusional world you live in.
Yes, if Matthews had continued to take the PEDs instead of chickening out due to the investigation he would not have shrink down and slowed down and also would not have the hamstring problems. So, yeah, maybe then he would have made it.
Shrunk.
Stay in school kids.

“I guess I’d rather be the Vikings with good people and 4 pro bowlers than the Packers with bad people and 3 pro bowlers.”
Well, i’m guessing that your parents would rather have a child they’re proud of. So not unlike your parents, we can’t always get what we want.
Just a serious question killer….do you ever look in the mirror and ask yourself…what the fuck is wrong with me?
