Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers sometimes takes the opportunity to single out teammates for their hard work, attention to detail or something of that ilk. These teammates are usually pass catchers and sometimes, the guy Rodgers compliments makes you pause and say, “What the hell?”
For example, Rodgers has long been on the Davante Adams bandwagon — a seeming bandwagon of one. Last year, Rodgers threw props at Jared Abbrederis and said he wanted to see more of him on the field. Of course, Fat Mike’s gravy-filled head can only accommodate three receivers, so that never happened.
Here’s another guy that would fall into that category — tight end Justin Perillo, good old Long Hair, Don’t Care!
Perillo has just one catch for 13 yards this season. Prior to this season, he had just 11 for 102. Still, Rodgers loves him some Long Hair, Don’t Care!
“I’ve been a big fan of his since his first day here. He does it the right way; he works really hard,” Rodgers said.
“He’s got a great approach to the game, he’s got a great preparation schedule, obviously because he’s out there and you don’t worry about him. He just catches the ball and makes plays.”
First, we know Rodgers loves guys who strive for perfection. He strives for perfection (or at least he used to) and expects his receivers to do the same. Although he doesn’t have the physical gifts of a Jared Cook, Perillo obviously works hard. Has to or he’ll need to find another line of work.
Second, that part about catching balls and making plays… let’s not get carried away. We wouldn’t exactly call a guy with 12 career receptions a playmaker.
But look, this came up because Jared Cook is sidelined and likely will be for a number of weeks. Obviously, that will open up opportunities for Perillo. And if we’re to believe Rodgers, everyone better look out for some big plays from Long Hair, Don’t Care!
