After suffering a concussion in week 1, we haven’t been expecting cornerback Sam Shields to play this week. He almost certainly won’t.
Shields has been listed as doubtful on the Friday injury report. Joining him with that designation are safety Chris Banjo and outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott. Receiver Trevor Davis is listed as questionable.
The only real game-changer here is Shields. With rookie Josh Hawkins still sidelined, the Packers technically only have three healthy corners. They are Damarious Randall, Quinten Rollins and LaDarius Gunter.
Rollins had some major brain farts in week one, getting beat badly twice on double moves. Gunter had one of those himself.
Realistically, the Packers have an additional cornerback in safety Micah Hyde. We expect them to be just fine, so long as there isn’t another injury. Similarly, we expect Rollins to tighten things up in week 2.
Considering Shields has had multiple concussions and missed three weeks with one last year, he could very well be out until after the bye in week 4.
Well, for everyone that keeps bragging that Ted drafted Rollins. Looks like this may be your time to shine. See ya after the game.
Speaking of injuries, has anyone heard anything about Corey Linsley’s hamstring injury? We’re now well into the 4th month of this injury, and we don’t hear boo about it. I guess we’ll hear about it, if someone goes down or doesn’t play well. But rest assured, as Mike said, it’s nothing to worry about.
“I’m not concerned,” McCarthy said prior to Tuesday morning’s practice. “I think all six of those guys will come back at some point in training camp.”
So yea, i’m expecting the surgery announcement soon.
Yes, Rollins had a bad game. So did Gunter. I still believe in nickel Gunter is better suited to be on the outside with Rollins in the slot. If Gunter is not deemed satisfactory to be one of the outside corners then Hyde should be the slot.
That really was not meant to be a response to you PF4L. Regarding Linsley. I sure hope there is no announcement about surgery. Anymore you never know, after Montgomery last year I will believe a player is back when I see him on the field.
