Unlike Brett Favre before him, Josh Sitton is not sticking it to the Green Bay Packers.
That’s what some people figured when Sitton quickly signed with the division rival Chicago Bears after being released by the Packers. Sitton was out in Green Bay on Saturday afternoon and had a new three-year deal in Chicago by Sunday evening.
But that had nothing to do with any hard feelings, Sitton said.
“I wanted to get the decision made (Sunday) or (Monday), as quickly as I can,” Sitton said. “I wanted to get to where I was going and be able to learn the offense and be able to jump in right this week. The longer it took, the harder it would have been to learn the offense. Chicago, they had me in first, and they got it done first.”
It probably didn’t hurt that the Bears ponied up $21 million with $10 million guaranteed, either.
“Honestly, it didn’t have anything to do with sticking it to the Packers,” he said. “More familiar with the division, close to where I was.”
Are we buying that?
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh…
On one hand, we don’t believe Sitton is vindictive like Favre. On the other hand, there was plenty of interest in Sitton after he was released. Twelve teams reportedly called his agent on Saturday. He probably could have listened to some other offers, but he didn’t.
Sitton isn’t going to say this, but we’re sure he’d get some satisfaction from showing Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy he’s still got it.
