Boy, were we all fired up when the Green Bay Packers signed Jhurell Pressley. Pretty sure every one of us said, “The Packers finally have that change-of-pace speed back they’ve needed for years.”
Pressley didn’t play in week 1 after the Packers claimed him off waivers from the Vikings. We were getting excited for his debut, though. Surely, an astute offensive coach like Mike McCarthy would find a way to work the speedster into the lineup!
Nope. Not Buffoon!
McCarthy will do no such thing and Pressley’s Packers debut will never happen.
The Packers released him on Wednesday.
I mean, what could you possibly want with a speed demon who can catch passes out of the backfield and return kicks!? Pressley scored a touchdown in both fashions in the Vikings’ preseason finale.
Plodders like Eddie Lacy and James Starks are all we need!
Maybe the Packers just signed Pressley to pump him for information on the Vikings. That still seems like a waste.
The team announced no corresponding roster move, so there’s currently an open spot on the 53.
It is reported the team is going to sign someone off the practice squad. The team needs to add a corner, however there are no corners on the practice squad. If anyone comes off the practice squad my guess is Price, there does not appear to be another position of need on the PS.
Even though the team had a good game stopping the run against the Jags, the Jags offensive line and tight ends are not as physical as the Vikings, lions,Giants,or Cowboys. In addition the Jags lost Chris Ivory there #1 or #2 runner to a sudden illness the night before the game. The team will need another run stopper besides Guion to hold up against some more physical offensive lines, at least until Pennel comes back. I think that would be Price. If Price comes off the PS look for Robertson Daniels or another corner to be added to the PS. If Price does not get promoted I would believe the team adds Daniel or another CB to the 53.
I think they’ll try and pick up a real DE
They will have a real DE once Pennel is off his suspension.
Pennel is more of a NT than a DE. Dude is listed at 6’4″ and 332lbs. He’s probably heavier than that.
Pennel is a NFL starting quality DE for a 3-4, although he would be good relief for Guion at NT. Pennel may be heavy, but he is a big man, with length, and may I add without a big gut. Perfect DE size for a true 3-4 defense. Guion also fits well as a DE in a 3-4. Guion just has better ability as a NT over Pennel. Pennel tends to get a little higher at times than Guion when playing NT. ;-) . This will be a very good 3-4 defensive line when Guion, Daniels, and Pennel are on the field at the same time. Guion and Pennel will rotate between DE and NT with Guion playing more snaps at NT than Pennel.
