It isn’t coming from the coaches, but today it was suggested the Green Bay Packers won’t play injured receiver Jordy Nelson at all this preseason.
After tearing his ACL last August and missing all of the 2015 season, Nelson showed up to camp with an issue in his other knee. That issue is reportedly tendinitis. While that isn’t serious, it can linger and hamper a player if not allowed to heel fully.
Beat reporter Rob Demovsky made the prediction that the Packers will hold Nelson out of game action until the regular season.
After experiencing what he called “a hiccup” with his left knee while rehabbing his surgically repaired right knee this summer, Nelson will be lucky to even practice before the regular-season opener at Jacksonville. Even quarterback Aaron Rodgers seemed prepared for that possibility when he said, “We’re going to need a little bit of time — not necessarily game reps — but just some reps in practice” to be ready for Week 1.
Would that be the end of the world?
No, but Nelson does need to get some reps in order to get his timing and chemistry with Rodgers back.
That may just have to happen exclusively in the controlled environment of practice.
Like we said last week, time to temper expectations for Jordy Nelson.
