Will he or won’t he?
That’s the question for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. While sitting out the first preseason game, Rodgers said he would be playing in the second one.
Well, that might not happen after all.
Just like last week, Rodgers has been running the scout team in practice. That’s usually as good a sign as any that QB1 won’t be QB1 when the game rolls around.
The Packers get the Oakland Raiders on Thursday night. And Rodgers?
“If I play,” Rodgers said, “it won’t be a whole lot.”
The Packers are obviously being cautious with their franchise player. That sucks for fans who pay for tickets to these meaningless affairs, but we’re not going to get too broken up about it.
Despite how high everyone is on Brett Hundley, Rodgers is the top guy on the list of players you don’t want getting injured in a preseason game.
Rodgers is expected to play in week 3 at San Francisco. Then he and probably the rest of the starters will watch the fourth preseason game from the sidelines.
“I think everybody feels like four or five (preseason games) is probably more than we need to get ready, but until they make a change there that’s the way it’s going to be, and we’re going to be smart about it.”
Any relation to John Bonham?
Insert Shawn rant in 3….2….1.
So i’m guessing Rodgers plays maybe a quarter, quarter and a 1/2 this preseason. I guess i don’t have a huge problem with it, mainly because were playing the Jags in week 1. We do need to see Hundley get a lot of reps in preseason, because he needs them more than Rodgers.
With that, i will say this, there is a big difference in being cautious, and a big difference in playing scared. I think they are playing scared because of what happened to Jordy a year ago. And i’m even thinking, there might not be anything wrong with Jordys other knee, but i’m also uniformed, as we all are. I do think Jordy needs to get some reps and practice in, he hasn’t played for a year. And again, i don’t want to see him playing scared.
I don’t think they’re afraid so much as they DGAF, watch Jordy’s interviews. Sure looks like a man who could not give a fuck less about preseason. We already know how the Great Gazoo feels about it.
I get it, but even as stupid as i am, i know he needs practice reps, get his timing and route running down, get back up to game speed, take some hits, make some cuts, get confidence back in the knee. You don’t achieve any of that walking around the sidelines.
Practice. Jordy is no AI. I’m sure he and Aaron are willing to accept a little early season “rust” because they believe they’ll still be good enough to win.
