Just when we got done for calling out the Green Bay Packers organization for not supporting Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers, they trotted out general manager Ted Thompson. He’s apparently the guy who was chosen to deliver the message of support.
And what a fine choice…
“We’re going to support our players, we’ve always supported our players and we will continue to support our players,” Thompson said, before declining to discuss any specifics of the matter until the situation is resolved.
“I think everyone is going to have an opinion on things. I think there’s a lot of people who don’t understand what’s going on. It’s a little more complicated than we might want it to be. The more people pipe in, especially someone like me, into the whole serenade, the less likely it will work itself out.”
I guess what we had in mind in terms of support and what the Packers have in mind are two totally different things.
We feel someone should be expressing outrage that the NFL has threatened to suspend two of the Packers star defenders for not agreeing to submit to an interview. Because look, that’s fucking absurd. Did the Patriots sit by idly when the league wanted to suspend Tom Brady for deflating footballs?
Nope. They made their displeasure known.
The extent of the Packers’ support of their players appears to be making Thompson tell the media that they are indeed supporting them. Then saying they won’t talk about it.
Thompson isn’t the most eloquent speaker, nor is he ever going to get fired up about anything. And that’s the best the Packers have to offer?
Weak.
