The Green Bay Packers parted ways with the first member of the 2015 draft class on Tuesday. They waived tight end Kennard Backman.
Backman was a sixth-round pick.
Although he looked decent during the preseason, Backman was clearly behind Justin Perillo on the depth chart. It wouldn’t have been unheard of for the Packers to keep four tight ends on their final roster. However, with so much depth at other positions, that doesn’t look like an option in 2016.
The Packers’ tight ends will be Jared Cook, Richard Rodgers and Perillo.
Although Mitchell Henry was still on the roster as of Tuesday morning, he will end up being released as well.
The Packers still have more moves to make to get down to 75 today. They released six players on Monday. They now have six moves left to make.
