Luke Getsy: One Key to Packers’ Passing Game Resurgence

Many have noted the rapid rise of the Green Bay Packers’ new wide receivers coach, Luke Getsy. At 32, this is his seventh coaching job since his first college assignment at age 24.

He obviously has the head coach’s confidence, as Mike McCarthy assigned him his new duties shortly after last season ended. He had served as the Packers’ offensive quality control coach for the last two years.

The move remedied one of the biggest errors of the 2015 season. The Packers went into that season with one person — Alex Van Pelt — trying to coach two positions — quarterback and receiver. In theory, the move was supposed to bring the two groups closer together. In practice, it appears the receivers suffered from lack of attention.

So Getsy will have multiple challenges, but with them come opportunities to excel and continue his meteoric coaching ascension.

Consider this. The Packers have two receivers — Jorday Nelson and Ty Montgomery — who are coming back from serious injuries. There are two young receivers — Jeff Janis and Jared Abbrederis — who showed last year they merit more playing time. Randall Cobb and Davante Adams are seeking redemption after mediocre seasons and Trevor Davis presents the Packers with its first classic sprinter receiver (at 6’1’ and 188 pounds) in recent memory.

It’s largely up to Getsy to get all these parts working smoothly. Even more difficult, he’ll be providing input on who should get precious playing time, when, and how much.

If the Packers’ passing game returns to form, Getsy will get, and undoubtedly deserve, some of the credit.

Nobody cares I am going to play better than the Packers. The Packers offense is trash. If anyone thinks the offense will be good this year you are a fucking retard. If you say it will be good, I will kick you in the balls. Me, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson will play better than the Packers.

      DG
      STAY AWAY!
You represent a cancerous viewpoint. To challenge someone to a reauschambeaux is close to chivalry. But to insist on just kicking nads all over the place tells the world you have a facination with the part of anatomy that is both most vulnerable and bean sized. Like your brain. Packers fans only please.

Hey Steph bro, are u and Klay ready to give Kevin Durant the ring and win the NBA Finals. I’m ready man. How bout you Steph?

  4. Packers fan July 5, 2016

I think another reason receivers could not get open is because we did not have a real receivers coach. That might be another reason the passing game was ranked 25th. I expect the passing game to be better and if it is, expect a 12-4 season.

  5. Stephen Curry July 5, 2016
