As if we needed anymore, right?
Nonetheless, the Detroit Lions continue to dish it out.
And I guess that’s what happens when you’re a perennial loser that never gives your fans anything to cheer about (except those new cheerleaders).
The Detroit Lions have announced they will honor the 25th anniversary of the 1991 team at a game during the 2016 season. Why is that significant to the Lions?
Because that’s the last time the Detroit Lions won a fucking playoff game.
So essentially, the Lions are like, “Boy, we should probably honor these guys because it’s been 25 years since we’ve been relevant.”
You go Detroit Lions!
Now look, that Lions team was good. They went 12-4 and won the NFC Central. They had four All-Pros in Barry Sanders, Mel Gray, Chris Spielman and Jerry Ball. They had two more Pro Bowlers with Bennie Blades and Lomas Brown.
Other than the two-headed quarterback of Rodney Peete and Erik Kramer, those Lions were pretty solid all around.
Solid enough to win one whole playoff game. That’s obviously like winning the Super Bowl and The Masters all at once if you’re a Lions fan.
The 1991 Lions beat the Cowboys in the divisional round and then went to Washington and got throttled 41-10 in the NFC Championship game. A short run, but a run nonetheless!
Even an appearance is reason for celebration in Detroit these days.
Want some other fun Lions facts?
You may think the playoff wins drought is the longest in the NFL. It isn’t.
The Cincinnati Buttholes haven’t won a playoff game since the 1990 season. Detroit’s escapade of futility is only the second-longest in the NFL.
On the flip side, the Lions’ lone 1991 playoff win represented the first playoff win for the team since 1957.
That’s right. One playoff victory in 58 seasons.
That 1957 season marks the Lions’ last championship.
They can partially thank the Packers for that. Green Bay sent Pro Bowl quarterback Tobin Rote to the Lions prior to that season in a six-player deal.
For the Lions, 1957 was one of four titles.
So unlike the Minnesota Vikings, the case isn’t totally bare.
The Lions remain just one of four teams that has never appeared in a Super Bowl.
Why is this a joke? They were one of the four best team’s in football that season. I guess in the cow pasture that is Green Bay, you guys would just ignore the 1991 team and act like they never happened. When you are trying to create a winning culture in a place where not too much winning occurs, acknowledging the teams that won and had success in franchise history is a good idea.
Hey, maybe the young players on this years team can talk to the retired players and get some advice and tips. The Lions have every right to celebrate this team and just in case you think I am the only one who thinks so, read this: http://www.prideofdetroit.com/2016/7/16/12200224/why-the-detroit-lions-are-right-to-celebrate-the-1991-team
CHOKE PACK CHOKE!!!!!
CHOKE PACK CHOKE!!!!!
CHOKE PACK CHOKE!!!!!
Oh, and I am now going to be copying what Dave The Lions Fan has started with the whole CHOKE PACK CHOKE!!!!! thing. It’s becoming pretty catchy and it will be a great chant to use during football season when my Lions start to reach their potential and beat Green Bay (and also make the playoffs too).

Choke Pack Choke indeed.
Funnily enough, the 2014 Packers were one of the 4 best teams in the NFL that year and yet you don’t see Packers fans celebrating that team. I guess almost only counts in horseshoes, had grenades, and Lions fandom. Enjoy your Megatronless offense and worsening D, lol.
Yea, that”s sooo original, Mike. Kind of like your name. I, for one, will be really hurt if you start to say such things, especially on the internets.
