Yes, you. You know who you are, Green Bay Packers fan who is wondering why the team hasn’t re-signed veteran fullback John Kuhn.
The reason they haven’t signed him is because they don’t need him and you are the only one who thinks they do.
The Packers have a fullback. His name is Aaron Ripkowski and they drafted him in the sixth round last year. Also, it sure would be nice if the team didn’t have to devote two roster spots to fullbacks that rarely even get on the field, for once.
But that could be wishful thinking.
You, John Kuhn fan, may just get another season of glory.
The Packers are reportedly still discussing a deal with Kuhn.
The bad news is, Kuhn was signed by this time last year. In fact, he was signed before the 2015 offseason program began. The 2016 program is now three weeks old. The Packers typically go into that program with everyone signed who they want in training camp.
The good news is, the Packers haven’t given Kuhn’s locker away. It still sits inside Lambeau Field, while those of Mike Neal and James Jones have been passed on to other players.
So if you wanted a sign, there you go.
If the Packers really want to sign Kuhn, we’re not sure what’s taking so long. There can’t be any squabble over dollars since it’s certain Kuhn has no interest from other teams.
Perhaps it’s the realization that if they do re-sign Kuhn, he’s going to take up a roster spot. You don’t sign a folk hero like Johnny Kuhn and then release him. All of you Kuhn fanatics and lovers of 1-yard runs out there would riot.
The Packers know that.
Frankly, although we like John Kuhn (not as much as you do), we wish the Packers would move on already.
