Alstevis Squirewell.
He’s our new favorite player and with a name like Alstevis Squirewell, how could he not be?
The Green Bay Packers signed Squirewell on May 9, after he impressed the team enough during a tryout at the rookie minicamp.
Squirewell is a 6-0, 265-pound fullback. So that works out pretty nice, doesn’t it?
No more John Kuhn. Enter Alstevis Squirewell.
It’s not as easy for the meatheads to yell, but it’s a way cooler name.
Seriously, we’re not putting Squirewell on the team. He’ll face a long road to make the Packers’ roster in 2016.
Not only is Squirewell a fullback, but he’s a converted fullback. He was a defensive end all four years at Newberry College, a Division II school.
As a senior, Squirewell had 56 tackles, 13.5 for loss, five sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
He’s most noted for breaking his hand early in a 2016 game against Tusculum, staying in the game, getting a bulky wrap at halftime and then intercepting a pass and returning it for a touchdown.
Check out the last highlight on this reel. The dude doesn’t exactly look slow.
Obviously too small to play defensive line at the pro level, Squirewell will try to stick with the Packers as a second fullback.
He hasn’t played running back since high school, but you can see the athletic ability.
There’s a lot working against Squirewell — his position isn’t valued, he’s new to it, he played in Division II, etc.
We can’t wait to see this dude lay some fool out, though. That’s a big boy coming at ya!
After Brandon Bostick, I can do without players from Newberry College
He’s no LaQuan McGowan.
Rrrrriiiiiippp!!!
Squirrel!!!!! I really hope he makes the team! It’s time to move on from Kuhn and let Ripkowski and Squirewell take the blocks.
