Receiver Ty Montgomery’s rookie season was pretty much a waste.
He played in just six games before suffering an ankle injury that appeared to be misdiagnosed by the Green Bay Packers medical staff. That resulted in a weekly will-he-or-won’t-he play guessing game that was frustrating for both Montgomery and fans.
After playing that game for weeks and weeks, the Packers finally decided to shut Montgomery down in December. It was then revealed that Montgomery didn’t have an ankle sprain as we had been led to believe all along, but that he had a torn ligament and needed surgery.
Way to go, guys.
Montgomery spent the first part of the offseason in a walking boot. Last week, we found he no longer had that boot and appeared to be walking around like a normal human being.
That’s progress, but Montgomery still isn’t ready to get on the field or even run, for that matter.
Montgomery said while he isn’t running, he is “getting to that point,” doing unloaded running in the rehab pool and “incorporating more lower-body exercises” than he had been doing.
“Everything is moving smoothly,” Montgomery said. “My timeline is their timeline. We’re all working together and just making sure the best things happen for me [to get healthy].”
Clearly there’s still a ways to go before the Packers get another glimpse of Montgomery in action.
You shouldn’t expect to see him on the field prior to training camp.
When he is ready to go, Montgomery will be counted on to help boost an offense — along with a healthy Jordy Nelson and a trim Eddie Lacy — that was stagnant in 2015.
