Look, this is all probably smoke and mirrors. The Green Bay Packers are throwing us all a bone and saying, “Hey, Big Ted can remove his head from his fucking ass long enough to think about actually participating in free agency for a moment!”
However, the Packers actually brought in a free agent who hasn’t previously played for the team before, on Monday.
That guy was tight end Jared Cook, who was released by the Los Angeles Rams in February.
They haven’t signed Cook and we don’t even know if they’ve offered him a contract, but by golly, this is progress!
As you are most certainly well aware of, the Packers got dogshit production from the tight end position in 2015. That put it at the top of our list of offseason needs.
The Packers are not likely to get an immediate contributor at the position out of the draft, even if they choose a tight end in the first round.
The alternative then is to sign a free agent or go with the turds already on the roster.
Cook caught 39 balls for 481 yards in 2015. In his seven-year career, he has 273 catches for 3,503 yards and 16 touchdowns.
