Look, this is all probably smoke and mirrors. The Green Bay Packers are throwing us all a bone and saying, “Hey, Big Ted can remove his head from his fucking ass long enough to think about actually participating in free agency for a moment!”
However, the Packers actually brought in a free agent who hasn’t previously played for the team before, on Monday.
That guy was tight end Jared Cook, who was released by the Los Angeles Rams in February.
They haven’t signed Cook and we don’t even know if they’ve offered him a contract, but by golly, this is progress!
As you are most certainly well aware of, the Packers got dogshit production from the tight end position in 2015. That put it at the top of our list of offseason needs.
The Packers are not likely to get an immediate contributor at the position out of the draft, even if they choose a tight end in the first round.
The alternative then is to sign a free agent or go with the turds already on the roster.
Cook caught 39 balls for 481 yards in 2015. In his seven-year career, he has 273 catches for 3,503 yards and 16 touchdowns.
I will believe it when be is signed. Owen Daniels payed us a visit last year but left without a contract.
I would take him in heartbeat. He would create a lot of decent matchups for us. He does struggle with drops like Finley did but can burn almost any coverage. Worse case this guy would be a huge decoy for our other guys to get open.
He’s been somewhat of an underachiever so far in his career, but lets face it, he has had crap for QB’s. Few too many drops than you might like, but he would certainly be a TE that can threaten the deep middle of the field, and that alone would be well worth the cost of signing him. Lets face facts, R. Rodgers offers next to nothing other than having reliable hands. THats a great trait for a backup TE, but does nothing to help the offense threaten the defense!
Much better alternative than the malcontent that is Martellus Bennet! Over 12 yd/rec for his career as opposed to Bennett barely 10 yd/rec (and 3 yrs less than 8.5 yd/rec including last year)
Why not Ladarius green, WHY NOT LADARIOUS GREEN THE CAP SPACE WAS THERE
Didn’t Richard Rodgers have 50 some catches for over 500?
Didn’t Rodgers lose Jordy, Adams regressed, Cobb couldn’t get open? Rodgers had more targets basically by default. His average per attempt was horrible, and you take away the hail mary and it’s even worse. Plus Rodgers couldn’t block his Grandmother.
It would have been nice if they writers of the article were to include a little more about this player, such as strength/weakness, speed, blocking ability, how the packers could use him, age, etc…. i guess i will just use another site for that kind of info.
Cook would be a great addition because we need a tight end to stretch the field. Even if he doesn’t get a lot of catches, the defense still has to cover him. Last year, defenses could cover our receivers with ease. Need to create more mismatches
Former Packers TE Colt Lyerla is much better than Cook. Re-sign Colt and you have a pro bowl TE. Colt is a top 10 TE.
Yep!
Hands up don’t shoot
Is that the kinda shit you wanna see in green bay??
Criminals getting killed by Green Bay PD?
I’m for it.
I live in stl he had potential kind of a dark horse. You need someone to throw you the ball. Reminded me of a Jackie Harris type before he left to Tampa.
Would like to see him signed. He went to high school right down the street from me in Georgia. I remember watching him destroy our high school team when he was a senior.
After reading what i could, seems he’s been getting paid for potential. Plus, not a lot of good said about him. I’m thinking there is a reason(s) the Rams cut him.
Also have to wonder why other teams haven’t shown interest in him.
Because other teams already have better options at TE on the roster…
I’m talking about his little on field protest and all that shit
Still no news… The Patriots brought Chris Long for a visit and he is signed. We bring Jared Cook for a visit and we are still waiting. I really hope that Ted does not give the whole league a shot at signing him first.
Shut the fuck up mj
I think he did give the whole league a shot at signing him first. We are a week into free agency. If someone really wanted him for their price he would be signed already.
True enough.
Terrific athlete but doesn’t have 2 neurons to rub together, like J-Mike but worse in every way.
Phat, then we are in trouble. Learning to play offense in GB is rocket science, it seems. Ask Janis or Bostick. Like Shawn says often, this game should be simple.
J-Mike figured it out…it ain’t THAT hard.
