None of us have ever worked in an NFL front office, so we don’t exactly know the protocol for major league events. However, we’d guess that there were 31 NFL general managers who actually showed up in the office when free agency began on Wednesday.
Not 32 because Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson — the glorified college scout that he is — posted his out of office message and went to the Wisconsin Badgers’ pro day instead.

If there was ever a sign that Thompson still doesn’t give a crap about free agency, there it is.
None of us expected the Packers to throw huge-dollar contracts at free agents on day one of free agency. While the Packers have plenty of cap space, they’re not in the top half of the league in that category.
Thus, it doesn’t make sense for them to throw $90 million at a Malik Jackson, as Jacksonville did.
However, the Packers do have areas in which they can improve and they’re not going to be able to do that via the draft for 2016. The tight end position is a clear example.
At the very least, you would think an NFL team’s general manager might want to stay abreast of what’s going on around the league on what most would consider an important day.
Furthermore, this is why you have a college scouting director on staff. For the Packers, that guy is Brian Gutekunst.
It isn’t as if they have chosen not to fill that role.
There’s the guy you send to the Badgers pro day.
Not in Green Bay, though.
The Packers’ general manager doesn’t actually have to fulfill the job description for a general manager. At least as long as Ginger Gap Tooth is running the show.
sad fact
Isn’t that the director of player personnel (Eliot Wolf) standing along side TT?
You know he has a cell phone, right? He easily could throw top $$$ at a 30-year-old running back from the UW parking lot. Or, he could have Russ Ball do it.
Agreed, this post has no point.
Like I said in a previous post. He probably forgot free agency even started…
They should re-sign TE Colt Lyerla if they want a true pro bowl TE.
Amen!
Ain’t gonna happen. I had high hopes for Colt once. He’s a total meathead.
Hopefully this stupid fuck will sign Jared Cook. The guy is one of the fastest TE in the league. Not great at blocking but better than R. Rodgers.
He just likes looking at the “young guys” . . .
Didn’t BGC post this same information yesterday?
Yep haha. I saw the live feed of the Badger pro day and saw that grey haired weirdo standing in the background and was thinking “how in the fuck are we going to sign anyone if our GM is playing scout”
I’m laughing. I am LAUGHING!
If TT doesn’t fix the TE position he should be fired. Good luck with Murphy actually doing his job.
Yeah, because the tight end position is the most important position on a football team. The Broncos won the super bowl because of Owen Daniels and Vernon Davis afterall… A malcontent like Jared Cook will be great locker room presence.
Im fine with not throwing big jack around, im just saying, if its about Super Bowls, and McCarthy says that’s all this is about, its Super Bowl or bust, his words, not mine, then maybe you might want to look at ILB and TE and think about an upgrade from what we have. I mean its not like they aren’t are two weakest spots or anything. No worries though, Ted thinks UW OLB stud Joe Schobert can possibly play ILB in GB, he wants a closer look.
“None of us have worked in an NFL office…”
That’s like saying, “I’m not a doctor but you have cancer”.
Might be time to shut the fuck up about stuff you don’t understand? Just sayin…
Bwhahahshahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
OK! Sure!
Whatever you say Big Gay guy.
