We were pretty happy when the Green Bay Packers re-signed outside linebacker Nick Perry earlier this week.
It did give us pause that they gave Perry $5 million on a one-year deal. That seems a bit high for a guy who’s an injury risk and has just 12.5 sacks in four seasons.
However, maybe the Packers thought they had to pay Perry for last season’s playoff performance. He racked up 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble in those two games.
Regardless, the Packers did save themselves a bit of money if you look at it another way. As a first-round pick, the Packers had a fifth-year option on Perry for 2016. That option would have cost them $7.5 million.
They wisely declined it prior to the 2015 season. In essence, that saved the Packers $2.5 million.
As for Perry, he expressed gratitude for his new deal and said he couldn’t see himself playing anywhere else.
Blessed and Thankful to be given another year to live out my dreams with the Packers. Love my Packer family. pic.twitter.com/U0O6TukEO4

Cute kid.
Probably because no other team wanted him. He really hasn’t done anything for the Packers to be honest and for them to offer him only $5 million for a one year deal indicates to me they don’t think that much of him either.
I think they are waiting to see if he gets over the injury bug. Like they did with Neal. This may work out well for both parties.
Welcome back Nick. Now is your time. This is your season. Make it happen!
Hey Shaun & Monty –
Remember a month ago when the term “big splash” in free agency was getting tossed around? Jesus, I swear this organization is now literally trolling it’s own fan base.
The more I hear about Danny Trevathan’s deal the angrier I get. This team’s holes on defense are obvious, we need to fix the middle of the field. We need depth behind Letroy, and we need a rangy linebacker who can cover a tight end (so we don’t get shredded in the middle of the field; I love Micah but he can’t cover tight ends for shit). Danny and Letroy could have stepped up as starters and then we could have drafted for depth and development.
There are more tight ends and linebackers in the draft than people think, but we need leaders on the field in key positions now. Our secondary might be killer next year, and I think with Julius, Clay and Nick on the outside we’ll be solid there too. But we need to fix the middle of the field, teams run straight through us every season.
I agree with you guys (I think), that we should draft an offensive tackle, maybe Jason Spriggs or Jack Conklin, in the 1st round. But then why wouldn’t you at least CONSIDER using free agency a bit elsewhere? He wouldn’t have lost his precious fucking comp picks because Danny Trevathan was a cap casualty!
They had a chance to do it, at a reasonable price, and Ted didn’t even show up to work that day. Here comes another season of swiss cheese defense up the middle. I live in Chicago, so all the bears fans get another season of laughing at me while I yell “FUCKING TACKLE HIM” at the TV. The Benny Hill “yackety sax” music goes really well with Larry Fitzgerald burning us for 70 odd yards in overtime. Screw Flanders.
Maybe you don’t read the post on here. Packer fans have spoken, we don’t need Trevathan, we have Ryan/Barrington.
You got to chill man, take a seat and have a big glass of kool aid.
Yeah, you tell ’em shit dick. Take another hit off that crack pipe!
Aren’t you dead?
Your insight is only matched by your grammar.
Signing Perry was great. If he can get over injury bug he can be a difference maker.Perry is a good man and glad he is a Packer. The draft will work our way this year.Because of the number of quality big men Ragland will fall in Ted’s lap at 27.Reggie Ragland will be a Packer and a great one. After 8 years of scrambling at ILB Ragland will solve the problems.Watched him practice and play for two years. He is a tone setter, durable, and born to be a Packer. Also he wants to be a Packer.
