If you thought the Green Bay Packers could solve their tight end woes by waiting around for the Chicago Bears to release Martellus Bennett, you were wrong.
The Bears, who have been trying to trade Bennett, finally found that trade partner on Wednesday — the now tight end rich New England Patriots.

A fourth-round pick is not an inconsequential pick to trade and we all know Packers general manager Ted Thompson never would have sent such a pick to the Bears.
In fact, we doubt the Bears would have sent Bennett to their division rival via trade, either.
No, the Packers were playing the waiting game.
Waiting around for the Bears to give up on trading Bennett and release him.
If that was their only plan for improving the tight end position, it was a stupid one. Chicago had no impetus to release Bennett until at least the draft.
Perhaps now the Packers will be spurred to pull the trigger on Jared Cook, who visited the team on Monday.
