Casey Hayward Signs with Chargers

Casey Hayward

The Green Bay Packers have lost cornerback Casey Hayward to the San Diego Chargers.

Hayward got a three-year deal from San Diego.

For the #Chargers and CB Casey Hayward, it's a 3-year deal worth $15.3M, source said.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 13, 2016

Hayward is the second of the Packers’ free agents to sign with another team, joining backup quarterback Scott Tolzien, who signed with the Colts last week.

Like Tolzien, we knew Hayward wouldn’t be back.

He played a position where his replacement was already on the team. The Packers are stocked at cornerback with Sam Shields, Damarious Randall, Quinten Rollins, Ladarius Gunter and Demetri Goodson.

Even though Hayward fell into the Packers’ top three cornerback mix in 2015, it looks like they’ll be better in 2016 with a top three of Shields, Randall and Rollins.

The Packers gave Hayward every chance to prove he was a boundary cornerback in 2015. He only proved what we all already knew — he’s just an above-average slot cornerback.

For that reason, he really held no value for the Packers moving forward.

    Now send Goodson packing.

Goodson! Someone has to have forgotten that this guy was still on the team. Otherwise I can’t imagine why he wasn’t cut.

Aside from his rookie year, he’s been absolute horseshit.

Aside from House, he’s as much to blame for the Seattle choke job as any one player on a team can be.

    Good riddance.

We’ll never win Super Bowl without Hayward. Thanks for wasting our draft pick on his replacement. Fire Ted!

$5 million a year will prove to be a bargain for Hayward. I think I would have paid him. I expected he’d get more.

I would’ve preferred to resign him over a fucking kicker.

One of the most consistent kickers in the league….it has absolutely nothing to do with “over him”. This close to a title, you don’t just throw caution to the wind and pick up a One-Nut off the streets, over a few Mil.

And we’d be lucky to get 10 games out of Shields…if we’re lucky? Nothing against weed, but how freaking high are you? Yeah check the third column there pal. 4 out of 6 seasons we got 14, and NEVER below 10….christ.

Thanks to all you prudes showing up, we haven’t seen half the humor this place used to have in probably 2 years…

    My thoughts on Hayward:
Very good at covering true “slot” receivers. Not very good at covering big and physical recievers. Just watch the Cardinals game ha.
Would have liked to see him resigned for around 5 mill but looks like we weren’t interested. Now we head into the season very very young at CB. You could almost say inexperienced. Yes we have Shields, but Let’s be real he’s only good to play in about 10 games a season if he’s lucky.

Just saw totalpackers story on Nick Perry on bleacherrport team stream. Congrats! Please don’t become too mainstream though. A real packer fan has to do some digging to find this site.

Fveryone remember how high on heyward everyone was after his rookie season and then what happened, why isnt anyone taking that into account with gunter and randall and rollins

I think because Hayward had 6 interceptions as a rookie, and never lived up to that performance afterward. The new guys pass the eyeball test. Hopefully they progress in year 2. The odds of all 3 turning to shit/injured are lower at least.

However, I dunno what the hell anyone sees with Goodman. Maybe he will be the next one to stink it up and get replaced by some undrafted free agent.

Hayward had a great Rookie season. Being probably the least studied guy on our defense. Hes what MM/TT has always classified as a “good football player”, a 5’11” 190 lb guy with very average speed. Defenses figured this out, he deserves some attention, be wary of his football prowess, and remember his limitations. Boom, easily schemed around.

Now we just have to hope 2 of the 3 rooks can survive with a year of their game tape out there for D coords to digest. They will need football skills and physical talent to survive this.

Also, nobody has 5 good CB’s…Goodman is a decent physical specimen, and a very adequate special teamer. Remember he replaced Bush, the 8 year(or something) vet who made your heart stop every time he had to play defense. Plus, with Mika, Goodman is really the #6 CB to see the field.

Heywood was too often late to the party. His departure should save my vocal cords.

Agreed, sucks to not be able to retain him, but we have enough slot CB’s as it is. And with Ladarius being so cheep thats how you keep the really important guys, the Daniels and the Cobbs of the bunch.

I don’t what you guys are seeing, but he fucking sucked all year. Good riddance!

You guys are bashing Hayward pretty good. Just look at his PFF grade. Best out of any of the Packers CB. Even better than Harry Hoods all pro Sam Shields

Hayward was a lot better than you guys make him out to be. Sheesh.

I missed this thread, not resign Crosby to keep hayward??? Lol. Apparently kicking doesn’t matter in the NFL

  16. Avatar for Big Gay Clay Big Gay Clay says:

Oh it does matter Kato. Just would have preferred to keep Hayward over Crosby. Do you not agree that it is easier to find a starting kicker over that of a CB?
