Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy pretty much trashed the officials as he was coming off the field at halftime, on Sunday.
The Packers had just watched their lead get trimmed from 17-3 to 17-10, when San Diego scored a touchdown two second before the half. McCarthy suggested the Chargers’ right tackle moved prior to the snap on the scoring play.
He did flinch slightly, but it was hardly noticeable.
Still, McCarthy said, “We’ve got to play above the officiating,” when asked how his team would have to adjust in the second half.
Interestingly, the Chargers incurred nine penalties on the day to the Packers’ six. Should have been 10, if you ask Big Mike.
(h/t)
I was all in favor of him pointing out the false start no call on the RT, but… He sounded like a butt-hurt clown in saying “we need to play above the officiating”. The Ginger Hammer will have a letter for you soon MM.
I think it’s great that he used that phrase “play above the officiating”. Doesn’t matter if the movement was a flinch, and “barely noticeable”. Fact is, the RT moved and it should have been called (particularly since they were a penalty happy group).
The officiating was sub-par, and we needed to play above it. Not sure that happened, but at least that missed call didn’t lose the game for us.
first off this cheap ass we site is buggier than hell…now for big Mike…he was pissed cuz it was not an offensive blowout like it was supposed to be, the whole thing didnt sound very classy, it was whining….Pack got a few calls too….your receivers are who they are, do a better job scheming for who you got on the field and quit whining, your 6 – 0……
I can’t stand anyone bitching about the refs, during or after a game, whether it’s coaches, players, or fans. Mistakes by refs will always be made, against AND for your team (if you bitch when a call is wrong that goes against your team, then bitch when a call is wrong that goes for your team.) This will happen until the end of time, it’s the human element. But at the end of the day, the calls usually come out fairly even. Play well enough to overcome the bad calls, because as sure as the sun will shine, there will be bad calls in sports by the refs.
I remember when we had the substitute refs, and fans were crying over calls and screaming to get the real refs back, then when the real refs got back, people still bitched about the refs, nothing changes.
Leave the crying about refs for those that deserve it, the losing teams like the Bears.
Beside the two sacks we hardly could get to Rivers.
Not strange because they could hold and hold and hold and not been called. Don’t know why we kept blizzing.
And how about that nearly interception by Shields. Would have been if not obviously pushed , but no call.
“And how about that nearly interception by Shields. Would have been if not obviously pushed , but no call.”
And what about the other one? He had 2 chances and blew them both. My grandma coulda could at least one of them.
The officiating has been horrible league wide. I understand the human element is part of the game but these idiots can’t even get it right on the review. I agree with the concept of everything should reviewable if we had competent people doing it.
Of all the calls to complain about he chooses this.
Fail mary? Nawww we’ll let that one slide he says….
And they stand there looking point blank range at the play and still miss it. Unreal.
Every team gets fucked by the refs time to time, just like every team gets the occasional blown call that benefits them. Overall I’d say the officials have been pretty kind to the Pack, historically. This is the kind of thing lots of people hate about Packer fans. Let it go.
Definite fine forthcoming. Bank on it.
At the same time his team just got scored on in the final play of the half…like the worst thing that could happen to a team going into halftime…and then 8 seconds letter they stick a mic in his face. He was pissed and had no time to cool off.
All that said…it’s candyass. You don’t bitch about the refs. That’s not going to help your team get calls in the future.
Watch. We’ll lead the league in penalties from here out.
