We’ve got this clocked, yo!
Here’s who we believe will make the Green Bay Packers 53-man roster to start the 2015 season.
Quarterback (3)
- Aaron Rodgers
- Scott Tolzien
- Brett Hundley
The Packers have gone with only two QBs in the past, but they don’t have that luxury this season because Hundley played like a boss in the preseason. There’s no way he’d make it through waivers and beside that, he earned a spot.
Running Back (5)
- Eddie Lacy
- James Starks
- Rajion Neal
- John Kuhn
- Aaron Ripkowski
We’d really like to make room for rookie John Crockett here, but just can’t see that happening. That kid has played well, but this is a numbers game. Rajion Neal earned the No. 3 job. The Packers will keep two fullbacks because that’s how they roll. Kuhn still has use and they just drafted Ripkowski. He will be the heir to your Kuhn fetish. Gotta keep them both.
Receiver (5)
- Randall Cobb
- Davante Adams
- Ty Montgomery
- Jeff Janis
- Myles White
We know. Everyone wants to keep Jared Abbrederis, but that doesn’t make much sense at this point. The guy hasn’t been able to stay on the field. Mike McCarthy said it earlier this week — two things he values most are availability and effort. Abbrederis hasn’t been available.
Tight End (3)
- Richard Rodgers
- Andrew Quarless
- Kennard Backman
Boy, talk about a group of guys no one is excited about. Here you go. That No. 3 spot came down to Backman and Justin Perillo. Backman gets it for his upside as a receiver and the fact that he was a sixth-round draft pick this year.
Offensive Line (9)
- David Bakhtiari
- Bryan Bulaga
- Corey Linsley
- T.J. Lang
- Josh Sitton
- Don Barclay
- J.C. Tretter
- Lane Taylor
- Josh Walker
Yes, we’re going a little heavy on offensive line. The Packers actually have some pretty decent backups there for a change. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised if Walker or Tretter were released.
Defensive Line (5)
- Mike Daniels
- B.J. Raji
- Mike Pennel
- Josh Boyd
- Bruce Gaston
Datone Jones and Letroy Guion won’t count against the roster since they’ll be suspended for one and three weeks, respectively. So what are we doing here? We’re saying so long to 2014 third-round pick Khyri Thornton who hasn’t done one thing in two training camps. We said it after that draft and we’ll say it again now. Nice fucking pick, Ted.
Linebacker (10)
- Clay Matthews
- Sam Barrington
- Julius Peppers
- Mike Neal
- Nick Perry
- Nate Palmer
- Andy Mulumba
- Jayrone Elliott
- Jake Ryan
- Joe Thomas
Yes, that’s right. Like Thornton, we’ve also seen enough of Carl Bradford, who was a fourth-round pick in 2014. We’ve seen a play here and there, but nothing that says this guy is ever going to contribute. Thomas is probably the last guy on the roster and probably the first guy off when Datone Jones returns after week 1.
Cornerback (5)
- Sam Shields
- Casey Hayward
- Damarious Randall
- Quinten Rollins
- LaDarius Gunter
There’s been talk that 2014 sixth-round pick Demetri Goodson (the guy that was foolishly kept over Jumal Rolle last year) might stick, but what would be the point of that. We’re not saying Goodson has zero NFL future, the Packers just have enough quality defensive backs. There’s also the availability issue again. Goodson always seemed to be sidelined by something. There’s also plenty of flexibility at corner with Micah Hyde on the roster.
Safety (5)
- Morgan Burnett
- Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
- Micah Hyde
- Sean Richardson
- Chris Banjo
The Packers keep Richardson because of his special teams play. They keep Banjo because, well, you saw what he did Thursday night in extended action. He may have earned a job for another season with that effort, even though he’s only a special teams guy when the season starts.
Specialists (3)
- Mason Crosby
- Tim Masthay
- Brett Goode
There’s not even really anything to discuss here.
Practice Squad (10)
- Jared Abbrederis
- Christian Ringo
- Demetri Goodson
- Carl Bradford
- Larry Pinkard
- Justin Perillo
- Mitchell Henry
- John Crockett
- Matt Blanchard
- Jean Fanor
We’re just going to assume that all of these guys will get through waivers. We have our doubts that will happen, but fingers crossed.
I dont know what it is but there’s just something about Myles White I dont like. I’d rather go with Abbrederis on just potential alone. With White you kinda already know what your getting which isnt a lot.
I saw just the opposite – he seemed to me to be a kid that likes to catch the football, and then turn it upfield for more yards. I think his hands look soft just as his speed looks deceptive. I am sure that Abbrederis would be a great contributor if he could stay healthy, but I am not at all convinced that this will ever be the case.
Abby is slower than White and not any bigger. He’s also made of glass so White is better keep hands down.
TT must have had a concussion when he picked Thornton, Bradford and Goodson. Every pick is valuable Ted. That’s your job. What a waste of picks. He keeps saying we need to get bigger, faster and more physical on defense and he goes and drafts undersized guys with below average combines. WTF
Another F up by TT is not keeping Rolle and House. If he kept Rolle and signed House, we would not have to draft DB’s in first 2 rounds and drafted ILB and DL which does not look good right now. You have to keep guys who perform. TT just does not know how to draft defense. He can pick receivers and QB’s well but that’s it.
jtmax is right on target with both comments. TT
drafts poorly, and then fixates on his picks to
protect himself.( If he cut them he’d be admitting
he made a mistake–can’t do that.) I said a year
and a half ago that ILB was the key to another
SB; and the Packers should do WHATEVER it takes
to get CJ Mosley. TT should have combined his
2nd, 3rd, and 4th picks to trade up for Mosley.
But he “doesn’t believe in it.” Let’s face it,
TT is a flat out weirdo–cheap (think we could use James Jones right now?), rigid (hangs on to Datone), and foolish (let’s make Perry into a linebacker!). This years’ missed pick by TT was
Maxx Williams, Gopher TE, he’ll prove to be
another Gronk. But TT went with two CB’s
instead. And the clock keeps ticking on AR’s
career. Unbelievable.
Would not be suprised to see Thornton and or Bradford make the cut. Not saying it is right, just saying that would be typical of higher picks. TT tends to give them more than a year.
Giants just released Jones PICK HIM UP!!!
