Friday was the first look the Green Bay Packers got at rookie running back John Crockett.
He had been sidelined since June with a sprained ankle and did not pass his physical when camp opened.
Now, if you’re saying, “Who the hell is John Crockett?” that’s just fine. He’s another one of Big Ted’s undrafted finds, so you shouldn’t be expected to know him just yet.
He does have a legitimate chance at making the team, however.
If the Packers keep a back behind Eddie Lacy and James Starks, which they did last year with DuJuan Harris, it could be this guy. Although he’ll have to beat out one of our favorite players from last year’s training camp, Rajion Neal.
Crockett played at North Dakota State, a subdivision school, but ran for 1,994 yards in 2014. That was one of three seasons he had of over 1,000 yards rushing and he averaged a gaudy 5.7 yards per carry as a collegian.
That’s not too shabby.
