The Green Bay Packers fielded the highest-scoring offense in the NFL in 2014. They’ll return 95 percent of the snaps from that offense in 2015.
What does that mean?
The offensive players the Packers jettisoned this offseason accounted for only five percent of the team’s total offensive snaps. As you’ve probably imagined, the Packers will return the highest percentage of their offense in 2015.
Only Pittsburgh (94), Carolina (92), Cincinnati (91) and Washington (91) retained at least 90 percent.
The Packers’ biggest losses were receiver Jarrett Boykin, who played 238 snaps in 2014, and tackle Derek Sherrod, who played 140. Boykin was a total disappointment and Sherrod was an unmitigated disaster, so good riddance.
No other offensive player the Packers parted ways with played more than 100 snaps.
Not even your boy Matt Flynn, who played just 67 awful snaps.
Sorry, “Fire-Ted-Thompson-because-he-won’t-go-after free-agents-Guy, he signed the top free agents at WR and OT, Cobb and Bulaga. Now the rest of the league gets to play the same best offense, even better this year with addition by subtraction. Good times.
Still need a play-making tight-end. Dick Rodge better step-up this year.
A more optimistic article from this site? Never thought I’d see the day. I might have to end my boycott after all.
We’ll not only return the majority of the strength, we’ll be even better. Adams, Montgomery, Janis, Abbrederis, and to an extent Richard Rodgers will all develop/improve and upgrade the offense, while Linsley and Bakhtiari continue to get better in an already impressive offensive line. There is not a single weakness in that entire offense! TE isn’t great, but not a weakness I say.
This should be the best overall offense since 2011. In some ways it will be even better, mainly because of the consistent run game, and terrific offensive line play.
I am really looking forward to seeing what Ty Montgomery has to offer. I have also been optimistic about both Janis and Abberdreris (spelling?) from last year, but I think that it is going to be tough for both of them to make this squad – too much talent at WR. Now if only Ryan turns out to be the real deal in the middle….
I like Montgomery a lot more than Abbrederis. Montgomery has size, good game speed and is tough to bring down. The only question is, can he catch the ball in the NFL with corners draped over him. Abbrederis does not have NFL size, has an injury history and never had to catch balls in traffic in college because teams stacked the box against Wisconsin to stop the run.
I would not be surprised if Abbrederis gets cut. He’s got to prove a lot in training camp.
It’s an upgrade over what we previously had, which was nothing at all. You had two great receivers and an inconsistent but serviceable rookie. They weren’t usually slowed down, but when they were it cost them big. Now we won’t have to rely on Janis or Abbrederis coming into their own in order for Rodgers to have a full flux of weapons that will keep the offense going at all times.
People seem really high on Janis because he had one or two plays, that’s hardly enough to depend on imo. A third round pick is much more promising.
This is great news for our defensive woes…
Plus Brian Bostic is gone forever…..
Better get that second Rodgers ring soon. All these retention stats mean nothing until then. I wonder which NFL geek counted all these snaps and calculated the percentages….bet he got his ass kicked every day of his life until he landed that job.
High powered offense? Learn to put the ball in the endzone against teams worth have a shit. Then I’ll get excited.
Yep! I noticed a huge difference against some teams where Rodgers would struggle against cover 2. Those games made Rodgers look almost pedestrian . . .
The Best Defense is a Good Offense.
The Packers will have a different play caller now… which could turn out better or worse.
Personally I have never liked head coaches who just stand on the sideline and do nothing. Whats the point of them even being there.
