[tps_title]Herb Adderley[/tps_title]
1961, 12th overall
If you know the story of Herb Adderley, then you know he wasn’t drafted as a cornerback. He was a running back at Michigan State and Vince Lombardi had no idea where Adderley was going to play in Green Bay. Lombardi had plenty of running backs, with Jim Taylor, Paul Hornung and Tom Moore, who was selected in the first round just a year earlier. As the story goes, Lombardi couldn’t pass on Adderley’s athleticism and decided he’d figure out a way to get him on the field later. An injury to Hank Gremminger midway through the 1961 season is what made the decision for Lombardi. So, technically, Adderley doesn’t even belong on this list, since he wasn’t drafted as a cornerback. We like talking about what a badass Herb Adderley was too much to leave him off, though. Five-time Pro Bowler, four-time All Pro, Hall of Fame, class of 1980.
