The Packers 10th annual Tailgate Tour left Lambeau Field on Tuesday morning. It will continue through Saturday, with the bus stopping in Elkhorn today.
If you are like most of Packer Nation, then you are probably aware that such a tour exists and has been occurring around this time of year for the past so many years. You are probably also vaguely aware of the general gist of this tour, and that it does not involve strippers or the head of NFL officiating, as that would be on the Dallas tour bus.
Basically Mark Murphy gets a bunch of Packer players, former and current, to ride a bus and take a tour of the state of Wisconsin. Along this tour, the Packers stop at schools, nursing homes, meet veterans, and attend a variety of charity events. The tour allows the organization to give back to the community by carrying a good message to kids and giving fans exposure to players they wouldn’t otherwise have all the while raising money for local causes.
The Packers on the bus this year are Packer Hall of Famers Jerry Kramer and Dave Robinson, Favre-era Antonio Freeman, Gilbert Brown and Bill Schroeder, and current players Micah Hyde, Casey Hayward and Andrew Quarless.
The tour bus has rolled through such exotic locations as Menominee, Prairie Du Chien, Shawano, Durand, and Baraboo, and if those exciting towns aren’t enough to convince every one of those guys to never live in Wisconsin, they still get to finish in Sheboygan on Saturday.
Hey, Green Bay may not be the Jewel of Nile either, but I try to avoid those towns if I can and I was born in this state.
Hopefully the guys can entertain themselves, or the bus comes fully stocked. If this Quarless selfie is any indication, then so far, so good.
Kramer should also be in the NFL hall of fame. It is way past time.
Shawn, how many GB Packers players (former and current) do you think that living most of the time in Wisconsin? 30%?
Less. And tours like this will assure that number stays low.
They go to upper Michigan as well
