Packers Reportedly Have B.J. Raji Wrapped Up Too

B.J. Raji

Letroy Guion and B.J. Raji.

The Green Bay Packers decided to address their nose tackle spot for the 2015 season on Monday and now reportedly have deals with both guys. Like Guion, Raji is got another one-year deal. This one is worth $3.5 million.

#Packers are expected to bring back free agent DT BJ Raji on a one-year deal, source said. He missed last year after surgery on his bicep

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 30, 2015

After playing out his rookie deal (and turning down an extension worth a reported $8 million annually), Raji got a one-year, $4 million deal from the Packers last offseason. He was coming off his worst season as a pro at the time (17 tackles, no sacks).

Raji promptly came back and tore things up during training camp, both figuratively and literally. Perhaps motivated by his prove-it one-year contract, he looked like a mad man early on in camp. Then, of course, he tore his bicep and missed the entire season.

So it must have felt like déjà vu for Raji this offseason.

Coming off a lost season. No one calling. Sign another one-year deal with the Packers.

If Raji can stay healthy, this is actually a great signing for the Packers. Not only should he be motivated again, but we fully expect Guion to get suspended by the Ginger Hammer for his drug arrest.

The Packers will need someone to man the nose while Guion is out. When he returns, they should have a pretty nice rotation that will allow both guys to stay fresh.

Good thing were getting him back before another NFL team realizes how good this guy is (was in 2010) and snaps him up.

The only question left is what did it take to sign this stud to another one year prove it deal? I would hope it would be less than the 4 million wasted on him last season. The reason they call it a one year “prove it” deal, is because they haven’t proved anything in years.

It’s constantly reported that Raji was a “beast” in training camp last season. The last time i checked, no one went to the pro bowl based on how they looked in a training camp.

Now lets look at actual production the last 2 season he’s played.

In 30 games this stud has recorded a whopping 28 solo tackles. He has also contributed 0 sacks, all while never forcing a fumble. In other words, he was invisible.

And for this…Big Ted offers him 8 million/year? What is this, the twilight zone?

Lets just say Raji signs for 4 million this year. That would mean that the Packers would have paid this fat fuck $33 million + based on 1 great year in 2010.

This signing isn’t a move of improving this team, this signing is the same as it was last season, a signing of desperation because Big Ted hasn’t hit on a draft pick for the D line since telling Cullen Jenkins to kick rocks, maybe he was too busy finding a stud at ilb, wait….wut?

No before the hate starts, i do give Ted credit for assembling a Super Bowl team and drafting Rodgers and showing big balls by showing Favre that he’s a player who retired, not an egomaniac that thinks he should make decisions on the daily operations of the Green Bay Packers.

But lets not get things twisted. Without the play of Aaron Rodgers, at the end of the day, Ted would have been lucky to field a .500 team

Hopefully the competition for snaps between Guion and Raji, especially with Raji trying to revive his career, will result in some serious production. Throw in Pennel, maybe a rookie or two, and we got something going.

Guion can also play DE so there will be times when they will both be on field at the same time. That should help against power running teams.

3.5 million a year for a guy who didn’t even get a sniff from another franchise. What in the fuck kind of deal is this? Forget the fact that guion will be suspended. If these numbers are correct this is an abomination. I would have let him rot in free agency until June and signed him for nothing. By the way this morning the beat writers were saying under 2 for guion and around 2 for raji. I was happy with that. 6 hours later it’s 6 mil plus for these two fat fucks.

3.5 million for Raji? Seriously? Wow Ted sure does love his guys. Wow. I figured 4 million combined for the both. We shall see I guess.

One year prove it deals. 1/2 mil. Guaranteed money for both is pocket change in the NFL. Appears to be a good insurance policy. Who says one or both even make the final roster. If they do not work out cut them prior to opening day and owe basically nothing as long as they do not go on IR. Would expect Ted still drafts at least one big D line man. These signings just help in making that pick not a must in the first or second round.

These guys aren’t going anywhere, unless they really do something stupid. These are your nose tackles. Are they gonna cut one or both and rely on the draft? Doubtful.

But not impossible with hardly any guaranteed money. Right? If as you and ARS state Guion and Raji are not worth the money then why are both of you so emphatic that they will stay. Stick to your guns if they are pieces of shit for the dollar value you should be happy they could be cut with little investment from the team financially.

Lol at thinking we are going to let these guys prove themselves in training camp and then cut them so we don’t have to pay. Raji and guion both make the roster with ease and collect barring injury. BJ is a TT guy and he stays with his guys until the bitter end. Bottom line. All that said, hopefully it works out for us and they both play up to their potential.
