Defensive tackle Letroy Guion will avoid jail time.
Guion, who was arrested for felony drug possession last month, has agreed to a deferred prosecution agreement according to Rob Demovsky. The deal will result in probation for Guion, but he won’t serve any time, which will allow him to resume his NFL career in 2015.
That is, providing NFL commissioner and one-man justice squad Roger Goodell doesn’t suspend Guion for the entire season.
We fully suspect an NFL suspension is forthcoming. The only question is, how many games will Guion get?
Meanwhile, the plea agreement gets Guion closer to rejoining the Packers. Guion will be a free agent next week, but it’s been almost a foregone conclusion that he would return to Green Bay so long as he wasn’t doing time.
The Packers approached Guion about a contract extension during the season. They’ve also stood by him since the arrest and have maintained their desire to re-sign him.
It’s doubtful the NFL suspension would stand in the way of the Packers re-signing Guion. If/when he’s suspended, he’ll most likely be suspended without pay, so that time period won’t cost the Packers anything.
