Obviously, losing a starter and a top backup hurts. What was a strength last season, is now a big question mark entering 2015. Sam Shields is one starter. That we know. The cupboard isn’t bare, either. Both Casey Hayward and Micah Hyde have had their moments in the past. Of course, both of them have had those moments playing the slot. That’s likely where Hyde will remain, while the Packers will be forced to try Hayward on the outside. Hayward says he can play out there, but he’ll have to improve his dog shit tackling if he’s going to have any success. The Packers really need to fill one slot here and Hayward will determine which slot that is. If he succeeds as a starter on the outside, then the Packers need a dime back. If Hayward fails, then he’s the dime back and they need a starter outside. Unfortunately, they won’t know the answer to that question until August, so they better have a contingency plan.
