Surely, the Buffalo Bills defeat of the Green Bay Packers on Sunday was a surprise to some of you. Not so much here.
The Packers are most likely still going to get into the playoffs, but their road to the Super Bowl just got a lot harder.
Here are five more thoughts on a game where a lot of guys shit the bed.
Goodbye home field
In losing, the Packers dropped from the No. 1 seed — or tied for it — in the NFC to sixth. They can still win the NFC North by winning their final two games, which would likely push them back to the No. 2 seed. However, getting the No. 1 is going to be tough. The Packers will have to contend with Seattle, Arizona and Dallas. The Cardinals and their third-string quarterback seem pretty likely to lose their division to Seattle. If the Cowboys finish with the same record as the Seahawks, they get the nod because they beat Seattle this year. If the Packers finish with the same record as Seattle, the Seahawks get the nod. Playing in Dallas, who cares? The Cowboys are currently a sub-.500 team at home. Playing in Seattle, well, the Packers are going to get rolled. You saw the trouble they had with the Bills’ defensive backs draped all over their receivers. The Seahawks play a slightly better version of that defense. And the Packers are shit on the road, period. The Super Bowl dream probably went poof in Buffalo, folks.
Mr. Emotion
We’ve pointed this out a lot of times, so much so that we got sick of pointing it out. Mike McCarthy’s teams typically play with little emotion. If a team is an extension of its coach, then obviously one of the reasons for that is because McCarthy and his coaching staff show little emotion. Yet, there was good old Buffoon doing all kinds of hooting and hollering on the sidelines on Sunday. It obviously didn’t translate into any success on the field, but it was nice to see for a change. You go get ‘em, Mike. Show ‘em who’s boss!
An upset?
What constitutes an upset in today’s NFL? I’m not really sure after the Packers’ loss on Sunday. More than once I heard someone talk about the “big upset.” Really? Two teams with winning records meet and the one playing at home wins and that’s an upset? A big upset, even? Look, I’m sure the Packers were favored going into the game, but they shouldn’t have been. Anyone who thought the Packers were going to go in and steamroll the Bills on Sunday hasn’t been paying attention. First, the Packers are no more than mediocre on the road, as they proved again on Sunday. Second, the Bills defense is the real deal. They’ve now made Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning look like fools in back-to-back weeks. Any “expert” or prognosticator who didn’t at least see this result as a possibility doesn’t deserve to pick games. And for the record, if you think this was a “big upset” then you’re fucking moron.
When?
We’ve asked this question a million times if we’ve asked it once. When does that fucking turd Shawn Slocum get fired? The Packers special teams has pretty much been a joke since Slocum has been the coach. On Sunday, the Bills returned a punt for a touchdown and the Packers had another field goal blocked. That’s at least the third kick that’s been blocked this season. I mean, there were a lot of other reasons the Packers lost on Sunday, but special teams was responsible for a 10-point swing right there. That’s the difference between a win and a loss in this contest.
Here are some telling numbers
They are Aaron Rodgers’ in the Packers’ four losses this season — 954 yards passing, 3 touchdowns, 5 interceptions. In three of the four games, Rodgers has passed for less than 200 yards. He hasn’t thrown more than one touchdown in any of them. He’s thrown all five of his picks this year in those losses, with two of them being two-interception games. When Rodgers is off, he’s pretty much awful and so is the Packers offense. There doesn’t really seem to be much middle ground.

True, there was so many factors out of this game, short week, away game, Orton is a Packer killer, a better than average D in Buffalo, Munn revealing her sex life with Rodgers. I saw this game coming a mile away. Tampa presents similar challenges, just weird shit happens there for the Packers. Im kind of worried.

Saw the loss coming after 10 minutes. Just saw the Det Min game too and It looked like Bridgy got to get it but he made those rookie mistakes again. .Hate that luck the Lionettes have.
The way to overcome it is to run the fucking ball ALL day long. We have 2 good backs who were picking up huge chunks of yards regularly against the Bills. I know Lacy was banged up and limping at one point, but I just wish we would have run more.
I don’t think the sky is falling just yet. And to be honest there is absolutely no reason that the Packers couldn’t have not only won against the Bills but trounced them. Home advantage is nice but Aaron Rodgers has won away games as well and will continue to do so. Blaming the loss on MM’s lack of emotion is just nuts. Look at Bill Belichick. No coach that I know of is more unemotional than he is. Emotion isn’t always a good thing. Look at our friend Jimmy Harbaugh or Rex Ryan. I don’t see how being emotional has helped them one bit. The plain truth is that the Packers just played bad. And anything that could go wrong for the Pack did. For the Bills it was the opposite. All the luck went their way and the football gods were seemingly smiling on them from the minute the game began. Not all was horrible in this game. The defense came to play and if it weren’t for a couple of flukes, like the 75 yd kickoff return, we may have held them at bay and won the game. It was unfortunate and will only make it tougher for the Packers. But Championship teams are tough. They take adversity and turn it around. Remember what Rodgers said after 2 losses? Maybe we need to wait and see how this plays out before we start throwing players overboard. GO PACK GO!!!!
Usually they wait till the playoffs to pull this shit, now that it’s out of the way maybe things will change.
The reason why Mike McCarty was yelling on the side line was because the Refs wasn’t calling any flags on the Defensive backs for the bills. Look at that ball thrown to cobb at the end zone. The DB had this hand all over him and the interception where the ball bounce off the packers hands. The DB had his arms wraped around him already. No shit the coach would be bitching in the back field. And the hold on Nelson. The packers got a flag for a late hit, okay. But where was the flag for the hit on bulaga and matthews.
And this is what the packers needs to figure out, how to beat a damn cover 2. Teams are rushing only 4 and dropping 7 players to cover the passing lanes. But the packers keeps on dialing plays where they go 10-20+ yards on these coverage schemes. The packers needed to run the ball and then attack the short routes. This season, when the offense DOES play bad, they just don’t play bad. THEY GET COMPLETELY SHUT OUT. That is the difference.
I heard on the news today that the Packers attempted more long passes than any game this year. That’s a recipe for disaster against a good defense.
They beat the Vikes and Falcons who were both using the Cover 2. The Lions, Hawks, and Bills all have good D’s that’s the difference-E-X-E-C-U-T-I-O-N.
Yes, But the difference between the Falcons and the Bills game was that the Packers actually stuck with the Run, and they did like 10 check downs.
Agree with the home field upset points, and partially on the Rodgers one. That said, Rodgers still piled up the yards in those losses, just couldn’t capitalize; also, 3 of his 5 picks are tips (2 by his receivers-one a bad throw on his part-one by a great defensive play by an Aints CB) one is the fault of Adams not finishing his route, and the one yesterday was a poorly thrown ball (and not the best decision considering Jordy was WIDE open down the sideline) and a nice grab by Rambo.
The emotion perspective is such a load of bullshit-these are professionals, if they need outside motivation to execute their assignments at a high level then they probably aren’t very good to begin with. Furthermore, that ridiculous rationale can’t be applied to this year’s team, they got in a fucking scrum this week, twice, as well as a number of other times this season.
Slocum’s coverage units have been pretty good all season esp. punt coverage (they WERE number 5 in opp. PR avg. going into this game), Masthay fucked up the punt and Richardson got Kemba Walkered. Pretty sure we have a couple of FG blocks and near punt blocks as well. The protection has indeed been awful this year; however, that was never really a problem until this year.
John is correct. The formula to beat the packers is out there. 2 deep safeties. Dominant D line that can pressure Rodgers without having to resort to blitzing and corners playing physical on our wideouts. Run the ball and use the middle of the damn field. Get quarless in open space with a linebacker chasing him and work the middle . Forget this sideline back shoulder garbage trying to get 15-20 yards every down. Throw for 5 yards and grind down the field. Force the safeties to move up and then beat them deep. The opportunities will come for deep shots, just look at jordy on the drop yesterday. We don’t need a huge play every snap. Pick them apart with high percentage passes and wait for the opening. As far as saying it’s over because we have to go to Seattle, well maybe we do go there and get rolled but if this tea, wants to win a championship they have to win tough games so go do it or keep being content just making the playoffs.
If I’m correct, the only way the Pack can secure the #1 seed is by winning out, and need Seattle to beat Arizona next week then lose to the Rams in week 17.
To get #1 seed. Pack need to win out. Cards lose out. Seattle win then lose. Win out and get the 2 seed is most likely what happens
Actually there’s some tiebreakers that could change things (record vs common opponents) so Arizona losing out may not be necessary
Would you really be afraid to go to Arizona? I want them to beat Seattle & if they get the 1 Seed, who cares? We’d kick their ass in Arizona if both teams went to the NFC title game
But Seattle does need to take an L in the next two weeks. Without it, there’s no way we can grab the #1 seed.

Tough game to watch. Looked like receivers were not running their routs properly. No cut backs. Buffalo’s D played very well. There were flashes in the game of the O coming alive, but there was too much disruption. We had some big penalties in there too that took back a couple of large Lacy first downs with big gains. Our D had a very solid game which is important. Contenders don’t always win but they bounce back. Maybe their is a silver lining here, the Pack can’t be complacent now got the taste of defeat in their mouth before the playoffs. A good reminder of what it’s like. If the O comes back with a vengeance coupled with the D we saw last night I’d take them over the Hawks in Seattle even.
No matter what happens, always remember this. At least you aren’t a Cleveland Browns fan.
The Pack beat New England, were a Jordy Nelson catch from winning against a daunting Buffalo defense, play Tampa next week, and get those Detroit assholes at home week 17. The fucking glass is half full, Go Pack Go!

It’s still worth mentioning that his interceptions, all except one, have been off of the hands of his receivers. Yes, he also nearly threw a pick six against Buffalo, but every quarterbacks gets away with a couple of those every year.
I think the problem resides in the receiving corps. We just don’t have that many weapons. We have 2 consistent receivers, an effective running game, but nothing outside of that. When Cobb and Nelson are contained, we don’t have any answers, although Lacy should have had 25-30 rushing attempts.
We use to have play-making receivers all over the place, heck at one point we could have lost 2 or 3 of them and we would never miss a beat.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, TT should have resigned James Jones!!! The fact that he relied on unspectacular TE’s and a rookie WR was a complete mistake!!!
This loss didn’t surprise me at all. When the Packers were the #1 seed, I thought there was a very good chance they would lose it. I thought there was a very good chance the Bills were going to win. Any team the Packers play on the road that can create pressure with 4 down lineman gives the Rodgers fits, whether its Cincinatti last year, the Colts in 2012, KC in 2011, the Dolphins the Super Bowl year, the Packers always drop games like this.
