It appears that the Green Bay Packers will have defensive end Datone Jones back in the starting lineup when they face the Bears this weekend.
Jones, who has missed three games with a bum ankle, took part in workouts on Monday and says he’s confident that he’ll play this weekend.
Oh, and what’s this? Jones is going to shore up that worst-on-the-planet run defense?
That’s what Tyler Dunne asked Letroy Guion and Guion was like, “definitely, bro!”
Now, let’s think about this for a moment. Jones has played in five games this year. He has 12 tackles and a sack. In the three games Jones missed, the Packers played Josh Boyd extensively. He has seven tackles and a nice smile.
With Jones in the lineup, the Packers gave up an average of 163 yards per game on the ground. That includes two 200-plus yard outings.
With Jones out of the lineup, they gave up 137 yards per game.
Are we saying Boyd is better than Jones?
But Datone Jones’ return probably isn’t going to do anything at all to help the run defense. Might even make it worse, if you can imagine that.
