Morgan Burnett missed his second straight day of practice with a calf injury on Thursday.
While that alone might be cause for concern, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy upped the ante when he said he was concerned, during his media session.
“My concern for Morgan is higher than what it was yesterday,” he said.
What exactly that means is anyone’s guess, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the someone trots out the old, “it’s worse than we thought it was,” in the next day or so.
That happened with both receiver Jarrett Boykin and defensive end Datone Jones already this year.
And that’s what they call a segue.
Jones, who has missed the last two games while nursing a sprained ankle, returned to practice today. He was joined by running back James Starks, who also has a bum ankle.
Both players were limited.
Besides Burnett, cornerback Sam Shields and his balky knee remained out.
We’re deep at safety this year, if anything this could be a good thing. I wanna see what Sean Richardson is capable of, and against Drew Brees nonetheless.
As good as Burnett has been this year, there is no way it could be a good thing. Although I too want to see Richardson.
Ugh god damnit, I’m so sick of this shit. We need Burnett, anybody that disagrees is a fool
Burnett has passed my expectations. Burnett right now is the best option. I also want to see Richardson play more but not sure if this is the best crew to be thrown into the fire.
I know two things about Richardson in his limited playing time. 1. He still misses tackles when he is in space. 2. He will screw up a receiver or ball carrier if he hits them. Remember the poor RB from Oakland in preseason. After the hit even though it was clean you thought shit there has to be a flag for screwing someone up like that.
Richardson just doesn’t have enough of a track record in pass coverage at this time to feel comfortable with him playing a lot against N.O. But if Burnett is not available, what the Hell give him a chance. If nothing else N.O may not have any receivers available to finish the game.
Next man up.
Why concern yourself over a player you called a bust last year?
