We kind of gave this one the old — “Oh? Ah, big deal” — at first. Upon closer inspection, Brett Favre putting his grand return to Lambeau Field on hold, as he did today, is pretty interesting.
Favre was planning on returning for the Packers’ Nov. 9 game with the Chicago Bears. He would have made an appearance on the field with Bart Starr prior to the game.
Favre says he’s backing out of that appearance because of Starr’s health. The Packers’ greatest quarterback is recovering from a pair of strokes and a mile heart attack.
This was Lord Favre’s response when it was suggested that the Packers will still have him solo.
“I’m sure they could, but it was my idea to do it, and now that Bart can’t, I just don’t think I will.”
That pretty much says it all. Why won’t Lord Favre do it?
Because he’s frightened.
Brett Favre and Bart Starr walk out onto the field…
Polite applause. Some cheering.
Brett Favre walks out onto the field…
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
You CAN’T boo Bart Starr. You sure as hell can boo Brett Favre minus Bart Starr.
You know what would be fitting (and will also never happen)? If Favre would take his goddam medicine already, make the appearance solo, suck up those boos like a man and be done with it.
Seriously, I’m pretty sure if I could vigorously boo that prick (and maybe throw a car battery at his head) upon his return to Lambeau, I’d be done with it.
Favre will obviously do everything in his power to make sure the facade of adoration is in place at all times though.
