We know you love your white wide receivers there in Green Bay. So, Jeff Janis! Woooooooo!
Yeah, that’s right. Everyone is getting real fired up about Janis, a 2014 seventh-round pick, this week. Odd for a guy who has been inactive for the first three games of the season.
Like, maybe this is his week!
The media and fans alike have suggested that Janis is just what the Green Bay Packers need to spark their craptacular passing game. You know, because he’s fast.
Jeff Query fast, we bet.
And, all the receivers not named Jordy Nelson have been doing next to nothing, so what the hell? Throw Janis in there! He couldn’t really make fewer plays than those other clowns!
Today, the plot thickened. Jarrett Boykin — one of those aforementioned receivers who have done nothing — is suddenly listed as questionable on the injury report.
Well, surely Janis will get the opportunity to have his breakout game this week!
Yeah… we have our doubts.
First of all, we’ve been through this before.
During week 1, nose tackle Letroy Guion played like absolute shit. Well, of course our knee-jerk reaction was to call for Kelly Hayes’ boy Mike Pennel, who was inactive for that Seattle game.
Sure enough, the Packers activated Pennel for week 2. Did he play any snaps? Not that we noticed. Then he went right back to being a game-day inactive in week 3.
Look at the Packers’ game-day inactive lists this season. They’re littered with rookies. That’s not to say the team won’t activate one of those guys, but if Pennel is any indication, they either won’t play the guy or they’ll play him very little.
Second of all, Janis doesn’t have the vaunted Aaron Rodgers’ seal of trust.
Seriously, this is apparently a thing.
Janis is a rookie and as such, he doesn’t always run the right routes or run the routes exactly how Rodgers wants him to run the routes. Therefore, any one of the Packers media flacks will tell you — Janis does not have Rodgers’ trust.
And if you don’t have Rodgers’ trust, Rodgers will not throw you the damn ball regardless of how you can help the team. He’ll just force it to Jordy again. Jordy has his trust.
So hey, maybe Janis will be active this week. Maybe he’ll even make an appearance on the field with the offense. We highly doubt he’ll be getting the chance to make any sort of game-breaking plays though.
