The Green Bay Packers placed injured center J.C. Tretter on injured reserve on Wednesday.
As expected, he was designated to return. Tretter, who has a fractured knee, will miss at least eight games because of the designation. He can begin practicing in six weeks.
Of course there were some other moves that accompanied this one, since placing Tretter on IR gave the Packers a roster spot.
They filled that spot with practice squad center Garth Gerhart. He’s no stranger, having spent training camp with the team and been a member of the practice squad last season.
To fill Gerhart’s spot on the practice squad, the Packers picked up guard Josh Allen, who spent training camp with Tampa Bay.
He’s 6-3, 315 and was an undrafted free agent signee out of Louisiana-Monroe.
If you’re keeping score, this is the second season in a row that Tretter will have missed at least eight games. He broke his ankle prior to the 2013 season and didn’t return until Dec. 10.
And the injuries just keep on keeping on. As long as we beat the seacocks tomorrow it won’t matter. Toughest game we’ll play all year.
Why can we not keep a consistent center?
