You can all breathe a huge sigh of relief. Green Bay Packers right tackle Bryan Bulaga looks like he won’t miss an extended amount of time.
Bulaga suffered what has been termed a sprained MCL on Thursday night. That injury can take up to eight weeks to heal, but Bulaga is already pushing to return when the Packers practice next, which is Wednesday.
“Right now we’ve got a little bit of a gap between how Bryan feels and how the medical department feels about it, which is normal,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “I think really Wednesday’s practice will probably give us a better indication. I know Bryan would like to try to go on Wednesday, but we’ve got to see how his knee reacts between now and then.
“Once again, it’s not a major injury. We’re relieved by that. I really don’t have a timeline.”
The good news is Bulaga won’t require surgery. Realistically, he could miss a couple weeks though.
All of that is encouraging at this point, considering A. Bulaga’s long injury history, and B. the disgustingly awful performance of his replacement, Derek Sherrod.
The bad news is the Packers next two opponents are — like the Seahawks — pretty stout on the defensive front. They are the New York Jets and Detroit Lions.
Without Bulaga, the Packers may have a hard time beating two teams we all expect them to handle.
Amazing the difference one guy can make when you don’t have an adequate replacement.
