Hyde and Clinton-Dix Together at Long Last

Monty McMahon by Monty McMahon

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

We predicted that, in time, Micah Hyde and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix would be starting at safety for the Green Bay Packers. Well, that day is not here yet, but the two did spend some time on the field together on Monday.

Unfortunately, it was only in a sub-package, which means that as we also predicted, the Packers will be sticking you with Morgan Burnett again whether you like it or not.

Here’s how it breaks down currently. Burnett and Hyde are the starters. Clinton-Dix, who the Packers spent a first-round pick on, has gotten minimal work with the No. 1 defense… in place of Hyde, of course. The three safeties have also spent a little time on the field together though.

What does this look like?

Why, buffoonery, of course!

Hyde and Clinton-Dix are probably going to end up sharing snaps, much like the dynamic duo of M.D. Jennings and Jerron McMillian did two years ago.

Now, clearly Hyde is the best player of all the safeties right now. You would think you’d want him on the field all the time. But no, not the Packers.

They want Morgan Burnett on the field at all times because he was one of their worst players last season, but this is totally his year!

Also, don’t want to make anyone look bad — anyone who might have given that guy a huge contract extension — by taking Burnett off the field. I mean, he’s clearly an All Pro in the making. That contract proves it!

Yeah, we know. It’s early, but this movie looks like one we’ve already seen. All offseason we hear about competition. Then training camp rolls around and certain guys just get handed starting jobs.

We don’t want you to earn this or be forced to improve upon your performance from last year. Just get out there! You’re our guy!

It certainly looks like the Packers have decided to hand Burnett a starting job this year, despite the presence of two guys who might well be better safeties.

Lets see how it plays out in the pre season games.
August 9 first one at Titans.

What a dumb post from what sounds like a spoiled and entitled fan. How do you know Burnett will suck when he had garbage lined up next to him last year. A lot of people said the same thing during Nick Collins first 3 years.. While last year was Burnett’s fourth, it was essentially his 3rd year since he missed most of his rookie year with a blown out knee.

I think you’re jumping the gun a bit.

This is Burnett’s fifth year. Instead of improving, he regressed significantly. Only 5 passes defensed, no interceptions and he lead the team in missed tackles. Opposing QBs had a 136 QB rating when throwing at him.

I really didn’t like his “I don’t feel any pressure” comment. Compare that to what Cobb just said.

Burnett was also injured so we will have to see. May the best player start. Clinton-Dix hasn’t done anything yet to deserve to be names the starter.

It is really, really bizarre seeing someone other than Woodson wearing 21.
I believe Morgan Burnett will improve fora variety of reasons, among them because he will be paired with the likes McMillian or Jennings.

Isn’t MD Jennings on the Bears? how will Burnett be paired with them? Did that news not reach Seattle or New York…or wherever your parents pay for you to live?

Did they not teach you how to proof read at Fox Valley Tech? Come on, Wolfina – you’re slipping!

A funny quote from FoxSports assessing the Bears:

“Signing former Packers safety M.D. Jennings might help Green Bay more than it helps the Bears.”

Come on, Monty. Let’s not be ridiculous.

Today was the first day of pads, and Clinton-Dix was out there with the 1s. Not sure how much sooner you think he should have been out there.

And why would you put Hyde with Clinton-Dix when both have admitted they are still learning the scheme? Pairing either with Burnett makes perfect sense for the time being.

IF Burnett were to lose his job, it certainly won’t happen until the regular season. I can’t see Hyde or Dix showing enough to warrant benching Burnett before then. It would take a miraculous preseason.

Half these guys will be hurt by Thanksgiving. Everybody should see some PT. Just hope everyone gets along.

I remember when Burnett got drafted people were talking like he was the next Nick Collins. I still don’t see it….

Like I said on draft day it could end up being Hyde and Clinton Dix. But I still wouldn’t be surprised to see Hyde back at nickel corner if Hayward beats out Williams. It could totally happen.

Buuuut then Williams would beat out hyde for the slot. Hyde will drop down to slot next year when tramon gets cuts/doesn’t re-sign.this defense will be top 10 for years to come… BOOK IT!

You might have the Lombardi trophy but remember who they named it after. The Packers are already solidified in the history books. The Seahawks are just a footnote.
