No one has done anything to try to get free agent tight end Jermichael Finley back in a Green Bay Packers uniform, but plenty of people have talked about it. Add quarterback Aaron Rodgers to that list.
He would like to see the Packers re-sign Finley.
“This league is better with Jermichael in it and this team is better with him in it,” Rodgers said.
Or on it, even.
The Packers have given no indication they have any interest in Finley anymore. Everyone keeps pointing to the medical situation — Finley is coming off spinal fusion surgery. Of course, no team other than the Pittsburgh Steelers has bothered to run Finley through any tests.
Pittsburgh is also the only team to offer Finley a contract, but he didn’t like the offer.
Back in Green Bay, Finley’s locker is now gone. The Packers kept it intact throughout the offseason… until training camp opened. It was pointed out over the weekend, that his nameplate was replaced by one that reads “Packers.”
On the field, the Packers certainly have enough bodies at tight end. Andrew Quarless has starting experience and both Brandon Bostick and rookie Richard Rodgers have made plays through the first few days of training camp.
Unless all three of those guys prove to be duds when game action starts, it seems unlikely the Packers will even bother with Finley, regardless of what anyone says.
Even if #12 got his wish, JF would have some stiff competition as you pointed out.
Wish him all the best, he gave us great memories.
We also have Eddy Moss :)
